Cant work it out really,I assume Nasri is a muslim and would assume Anelka is also.If so they themselves are from immigrant stock,no real difference from the Jews. One things for certain they wont be playing for Spurs

Did Anelka and Berkovic play at the same time for City?
Didn't they both play in the 3-1 ''Goater Derby'' at Maine Road?
Yes

Well seems some of you don't know how does it work in France :)

whats the story of this?

Dieudonné is a french humourist one the best of his generation (apart from his opinions he is really gifted)

He was making a duo with jewish one Elie semoun (originaly from Morocco)

The always made jokes about "africans, arabs, racists, religions also"

One day Dieudonné made a sketch representing an israeli Colon and since that he was being attacked by jewish organisations and since him and Elie separated still consider themself friends but because of pressure one had to take distance

From that day he started like a sort of vendetta against what he call "zionists" something he wasn't before so he start to travel to iran, syria and started a political mouvement

and this gesture called "quennelle" has nothing to do with an hitler gesture but because of his heated relations with some jewish organisations especially when they started to try to ban his sketch and representations. this gesture is some sort of anti systeme or fuck off

hope it gives you some info

I'm reading that this comedian has actually been prosecuted for his anti-Semitic jokes. Didn't realize that in Europe you could be prosecuted for making jokes in poor taste.

While I'm not thrilled by all this, I don't think anyone should be prosecuted for stuff like this. Anelka, Sakho and Nasri can't be charged, right?

NA has admitted he was copying dieudonne. I find it hard to believe that if he knew the origin of the gesture was Dieudonne, he didn't also know about the controversy over the comedian in his home country, where his anti-Semitic views are big news being talked about by celebrities, politicians, etc. To suggest that NA didn't realise just how controversial & inappropriate it was seems somewhat naive

As for the other topic on here, about the differences between Israel, Jews, etc, it's actually a very serious subject. There is a huge difference between being anti Israel/Israeli policies and anti semitic. Just think back to when Blair was in charge of us going to war. How many British citizens disagreed with the policy ? How many in the UK would like to be viewed from those abroad as having the same views as their government ? Then fully understand that there are more Jews living outside Israel than within, who in many instances may of course have Israeli sympathies, but they are not Israeli. They are French, British, American, etc. But jews throughout the world being 'blamed' and certainly suffering as a result of something they have nothing to do with and may not even support, is plain wrong

I am a 4th generation British practising Jew, with a background typical of 1,000s of Jews in this country including many fellow MCFC ST holders. My ancestry was originally Syrian on my mother's side and Eastern European on my father's. Both my grandfathers fought for the British Army in WWII, one great grandfather in the trenches for Britain in WWI. I see myself first and foremost as British. That's who I support in sport, that's what I am. Then I see myself as Syrian & Eastern European to a certain extent as that's my ancestry. I do not see myself as Israeli in any way whatsoever because I'm not - I've been on holiday there, I have relatives there, I have friends there but I am not Israeli in any way at all

I have no problem whatsoever with every person's right to criticise the Israeli government's foreign & domestic policies. My own views on their policies are irrelevant for the purposes of this thread, as should be every other persons' in this specific thread. But there is a growing problem right now with SOME people, who are anti semitic, disguising their anti-Semitism under the banner of anti-zionist (Israel) as it;s more acceptable. It's a far bigger problem in France than here, with anti-semitism involving far more violent incidents.

We quite rightly won't tolerate racism in football, nor do we condone anything even bordering on something that could be considered as anti-muslim. NA's salute was anti semitic, not anti zionist and therefore also has to be punished. It really is that black & white

Sorry for the rant !!!

Great post. Welcome brilliant analysis.

The French government seem to have a different view on it.

Well at the start he was making jokes about everything islamists, catholics, blacks .... it wasn't really poor taste and no one gave a shit but he got in trouble the day he made a sketch about an israeli colon live on tv that day he got in trouble with SOS racisme LICRA , CRIF ( organisations against racism and anti-Semitism...)

an I stated before from that day he started some sort of vendetta and tbf and set up a political movement the anti sionist list :) so it escalated quickly and the more the medias and jewish organisations attack him the more he continue in his delusion (we can call it like that)

now many started to do the gesture :) some one is feeding the other :)

If not anti-Jewish, why people are posing against Jewish landmarks while doing it (assuming the clip posted by Dubai Blue is genuine)?

He can claim that the Quenelle and his other views are anti zionist rather than anti semitic all he wants. The guy is a holocaust denier. He associates with holocaust deniers. He promotes holocaust deniers. He directed a film called the anti semite in which he played the lead role. And you seriously can;t see the anti zionist stuff is just a smokescreen he uses to divert attention ?
