This in Ogden's story made me slightly sad though. Would have been great business by us.

However, despite suggestions from the Real camp that City had attempted to sign Di María on loan ahead of a permanent move next summer in order to avoid falling foul of their own FFP penalty, the Premier League champions have instead insisted that they have turned down the chance to bid for the player having focused on signing defensive reinforcements this summer.

Yea I agree he'd have been perfect for us the fast LW we need.

Holy mother of god.

Mark Ogden ‏@MOgdenTelegraph 1m
Real holding out for £75m for Di Maria, but #mufc closing in on deal - <a class="postlink" href="http://fw.to/qFCIv9i" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://fw.to/qFCIv9i</a>

Florentino knows how desperate they are, he's taking the piss now.
That made me let out a huge laugh
Its hillarious, and a position they don't really need to fill. An injury first game would be quite amusing.....
Real taking them to the cleaners

Can we all agree that he's a good player, and an upgrade on what they have. It would also raise their profile in the South American market. Therefore, not just a good football signing, but a good business move. He may be a bit expensive, but we have experience of that found out that 'not in the Champions League' premium.

He's a fantastic player, it's just that the money could be much better spent elsewhere.

They thought they could get back to top 4 cheaply, and now are panicking to buy any decent player available for huge amounts. They desperately need CMs and defenders. Di Maria will improve them but not fix any of their fatal flaws. He's a forward, which is the one area that doesn't need fixing. Hell, they would have done better to sell Rooney or RVP and buy a pure #9. At least then they wouldn't have two strikers getting in the way of each other.

I must have missed something as fantastic is not the word I would use to describe him...and thats not my Blue tinted specs.64 Million is an incredible bit of negotiation by Real M.I would be gutted if we signed him for that kind of money.

I agree,we needed to fill the weak spots,we have done such and without upsetting the balance or harmony.Di Maria would have been the marquee some crave but the reality is we don't really need him.

Sell the deadwood, save the dosh, spend it wisely next time their is a real need.

and back.

At least they can't be accused of buying success hahaha, just more mediocrity if they don't strengthen the far more obvious areas. Still they could offer Welbeck as a make weight, that should knock a couple of quid off.

They are getting shafted by Real Madrid. DI Maria would of been a good loan signing for us but our attack doesn't need any strengthening this season,

As somebody else mentioned, it's similar to a bird spending thousands on a new pair of tits when she has a set of teeth like a burned down village.
A good analogy, although it'd be more accurate to describe it as a bird with perky 34D tits getting a boob job.

Di Maria will improve them and would pretty much any other team in the world, but any decent side will still stroll through their midfield and defence and I don't see Shaw and a dodgy Argentine left back (why two left backs?) making a big difference. They could have had Fernando and Mangala for £20m less and would have looked more like a top 4 side, despite how much the press will continue the Van Gal love in.
