Well this is clear with angelino going to RB..... ladies and gentlemen our new summer central defender will be Dayot Upamecano. Partner laporte. Both French. And most important listening to Peps recent press conferences is that he want pace at the back...

Because he is not good enough! there is no point keeping player who is not up to it, regardless of options. Shit is shit. Unfortunately. We will play Cancelo there in emergency.I could understand a deal with a purchase obligation and not an option in the summer.
I could understand releasing a foreign player to bring quality CB or LB to help us immediately
But what was urgent to release an HG LB on the last day of January when Mendy can't stay fit for 3 days in a row. He was our only LB who can actually cross a ball.
People here talk about the 25 m option, what if they decided not to buy him in the summer?

When I heard this I hoped we were releasing a foreign player to bring in a quality CB immediately and we'd kept it under wraps.

You're right that the 8-0 pumped up his number, but I took that game out and recalculated and he still has a 0.30 xA per 90 mins for the other 376 mins he played, which is only just below TAA's 0.33. Still a very small sample size, but if we were as efficient at sticking the ball in the net as Liverpool, he and Cancelo might be viewed a little more positively.Like you said, the sample size makes it difficult to draw any conclusions on that. Almost half of it was driven by the Watford 8-0 from what I can tell.

Absolutely. I meant if they were playing for Liverpool.They’d produce more chances. With our finishing this season they would still be a long way back on actual assists
