Sure, and that fact should be considered when weighing the pros & cons.

Well done.
Many thanks. I just wish we had a right buy functioning tanks. I'd be ever so safe then.

Why would you stop at a tank when reducing an argument to absurdity? Any self-respecting absurdinator would bring up nuclear warheads...

I feel cheated.
Why is a tank anymore absurd than owning a gun for protection. Road rage is rife.

The whole 'gun for protection' idea has one tiny flaw.

It's bollocks.

A gun is dangerous in a way that nothing else you can own is dangerous. Unless you love fatal accidents, you keep it locked up, in a safe place, unloaded. Unless the burglar calls ahead, there is no way you will ever be in a deathwish stance confronting the baddie with your loaded weapon. It's a stupid cowboy fantasy that keeps on costing innocent lives.

Talk about living in a fantasy world!

It's one thing to argue the case than the cons outway the pros but to make the claim that you have is quite pathetic. A complete denial of reality. Untold amounts of people have protected themselves and others without any accidents and whilst maintaining safe storage standards.

Would you care to offer some examples of a member of the public having successfully defended themselves from an intruder by using a gun?

I will, but only cos it happened not too long ago and I remember it being reported. Fully justified IMO.

She's obviously a gun-toting maniac deserving of a long prison sentence.

The sheer ignorance of Mammutly's post (which I missed) is breathtaking.
Sure, the massacres get far more screentime and column inches than people protecting themselves and others but that's no excuse. Anyone who ventures into the discussion (esp. with such strong views) over guns and gun laws should have at least done 10 seconds of research. I mean ffs it's a complete fecking joke!

edit:
TBH it shouldn't even take any research to know that guns have protected people. Common sense (an overrated virtue most of the time, imo) is enough. And, yes, common sense is also enough to know that guns will be used to murder people.

They have the same relaxed gun laws in Canada, and they don't have anywhere near these problems. I don't mean to sound controversial, but its more to do with the culture and mentality of the US.

Shit like this happens in Canada too. There was a gang related block shooting killing a few kids just the other day in Toronto. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.calgaryherald.com/business/Grief+frustration+after+shootings+Toronto+block+party/6957955/story.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.calgaryherald.com/business/G ... story.html</a>

And one of the killed victims in this shooting survived a Toronto mall shooting.

What happened here is nothing at all like this. The shooting here last weekend (about 5 mins from my house) was basically a couple of second rate shitbags decided to start shooting at each other because they (like most) don't have the fucking spine to settle an argument like men. P.S handguns are illegal here, most of them are being brought in at the U.S borders.

There is still the Eaton center shooting. I live in Canada too (west coast), and hopefully it never gets anywhere near as the USA. Idiots with easy access to guns is never a good combination.

It's a good thing he didn't hit anyone. Like the other innocent bystanders, or a passerby. Why does he have the right to further endanger their lives?

What would you think if he had killed the kid, but it turned out the kids gun wasn't loaded?

That would be an improvement.

It doesn't matter whether the robbers gun was loaded or not, their actions justify them being shot at.
