I thought it time to put down my thoughts about this whole Brexit thing.
I was and still am a remainer. My reasons are very clear, we were one of the top economies in the world and this was due, almost entirely, because we are in the EU. In my view, to put this in jeopardy would be a supreme act of folly. There will be serious economic consequences to leaving. This is not just my view but the view of the ‘Government’ as well; hence the reason to put by £bns to ‘soften’ the blow, money which could have been spent elsewhere for the benefit of the whole country.
We have said many, many times on this forum about the lies and half truth reporting in national newspapers and it is not a surprise that after many, many years of rubbish some people believe the anti EU rhetoric pumped out by owners and politicians who have a vested interest in leaving the EU - in fact some people (allegedly Rees-Mogg and others) will make money out of it. Add to this the exercise of rubbishing all words of warning about the consequences as ‘scaremongering’ by said newspapers and politicians and them saying ‘it will be easy’ and you don’t have to be a genius to predict the likely outcome.
I believe that leaving the EU never was and never will be easy. We have lived to long in the EU and have our politics and economy so tightly entwined to be able to ‘just leave’. I said at the time that to allow people a free vote on such a complex arrangement as the EU was not the way forward. It was done to placate the right wing of the Tory party. There are too many people in this country who do not care what the consequences of leaving will be. Tell someone on a zero hours, minimum wage contract who relies on a food bank to live that they will be worse off with a no-deal or any Brexit is laughable. One of the planks of leave was immigration; immigration never has been a problem for this country. ‘They’ do not take ‘our’ jobs nor do they jump the queue in housing or hospitals. The problems in our housing and hospitals, amongst others, has been the lack of serious investment whilst the Tories have run down our services. Don’t blame immigration.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not a socialist just someone who cares about the people of this country and the way the Tories have run down our services has been a disgrace and has been the cause of some of the dissent.
Rant over. Won’t change anything but I feel better for it. :)
