Another new Brexit thread

Not without more resignations from the Tory party and/or the Cabinet. And not without provoking a serious risk that, faced with an EU refusal to grant an extension (on whatever grounds), Parliament would vote to revoke article 50. The issue there is that they would do it as the obvious thing to do in the interests of the nation, but it is less obvious how it would pan out for their party in the aftermath.

There are a few options but given it is now law - it is possible that the courts could compel BoJo to send the letter / accept the extension, even down to the last day. If he refused he could go to jail for contempt of court. He could share a cell with 'Tommy'.

Assuming that he makes no effort to extend the rebels could take over the order paper again and get a revoke A50 bill going but the timing doesn't work so well for that.

So the gov are saying today they will not ask for an extension and we will leave on 31st Oct,what is he up to?
The fact he has shut down parliament today for 5 weeks is shameful for a democratic country

I find your analysis childish. Talk of winners and losers is pathetic.

Once Brexit goes ahead and I believe it will most sensible people will understand that we are all losers. FWIW I don't expect you to be one of those people .

Mistakes were made for sure but better to act in the best interest of the country than to continue with something that you believe to be extremely harmful to the country.

And what would that be? Cancel Brexit and pretend the vote never happened? Makes you wonder why both main parties campaigned for the last general election on a Leave ticket

I'm guessing he's trying to get us out with a deal on Oct 31st. Whether he's serious about that or whether he's bluffing is anybody's guess.

didn't the lords pass a bill preventing no deal brexit ?

so Boris legally has to get a deal by Oct 31st ?

Thanks, what would be the point of bluffing? no deal is off the table and he won't get his general election,he has to ask for an extension doesn't he?

Unless he gets an election before that date, wins it with an overall majority, and No Deal is then back on the table I think? A lot of ifs and buts there.

Deal or No Deal, I think he's backed himself into a corner here but leaving Johnson out of it, the noises from the EU appear to be that they wouldn't grant an extension anyway

I meant bluffing in terms of whether he has a deal to put to the EU. According to some, he hasn't been doing too much work on that front but who knows? We might just see some movement on that now

leave
/liːv/
Learn to pronounce
verb
  1. 1.
    go away from.
"she left London on June 6"
synonyms: depart from, go away from, go from, withdraw from, retire from, take oneself off from, exit from, take one's leave of, pull out of, quit, be gone from, decamp from, disappear from, abandon, vacate, absent oneself from, evacuate

Can you explain why, the leave campaign spent so much time lying to people about doing deals & Farage saying ''Norway' etc etc etc, if it wasn't to persuade them to vote for exactly that: a deal ?

Why didn't they just say we will leave, immediately, without one, if that's what it meant & that's what people wanted ?

"The Brexit party leader added: "Forget people changing their minds. People want it over, done and get on with the rest of their lives. Who wants this to dominate our politics for another five or 10 years."

This nugget from Mr Farage, clearly ignoring the fact that if we go with a no-deal brexit, it's going to take at least a decade to normalise our relationships with our trading partners around the world. It's hard to believe that anyone actually believes this prick, but it's clear that they do.
