Does make you wonder what needs to happen before Americans wake up and actually do something to try a prevent this. Everytime this kind of thing happens they don't seem to actually do anything or learn any lessons to try and stop it happening in the future. They just harp on about their right to defend themselves, in that case what's the next course of action give your six year old a gun to take to school in case another nutter pops in.

i'll bet someone from the NRA has proposed putting guns in schools for their 'protection'

Not quite the same, but there is legislation currently in 4 states proposing to allow you to conceal and carry guns to work......sounds like a good idea.

Great, got to love the US, 'we have a gun problem how do we stop people with guns shooting people, buy bigger guns.

Sometimes you have to realised that political ideals are prohibitive to workability in the real world Skash.
If I'm not an ideologue, I am nothing.

That sounds very like you value being able to label yourself as something politically above anything else, regardless of anything else and changing circumstances.

I'm not sure that's a particularly noble stance, if that is how it is meant to be interpreted. It sounds a little self obsessed and egotistical. Especially in the context of "I can't argue against gun control in nutty America, something that the rest of the world views with horror, because I won't be able to look in the mirror and tell myself I am a 'whatever label you want to insert'"

if every gun maker was shut down this instant it would not prevent this type of tragedy. Hungerford and Dunblaine resulted in the closure of legitimate clubs yet the scrotes still have hand-guns.
Whatever the solution is, it wont be "banning" guns, just not possible to police, as we found out here.

The constitution is so ingrained, even the presidential election barely mentioned gun laws.

It's a terrible shame, a travesty of all those poor kids.

Nothing to do with the constitution really. The constitution could easily be re-interpreted as it has been done countless of times. The 2nd amendment containing the words a 'well-regulated militia' as a qualifier. Ergo, the solution could easily be that you have to be in a well-regulated militia to have guns. The government could then define what well-regulated is.

The issue is special interests and the culture itself.

Just don't know why you would need to own a gun. If you want to shoot then go to the shooting range but why do you need one in the home?

Protection. Everyone has a gun so everyone is safe.

What we need is for primary school children to own and carry guns, then this would never had happened as they would have defended themselves. Simple really.

Maybe not banning them, but a least some sort of licensing. At the moment any US citizen can walk into a shop a buy a gun as easy as buying a packet of sweets. This is irrelevant of whether a person is suitable or even medically mentally stable or not. Guns would still be able to be bought but at least it might be a bit more difficult than it is now
