Anybody Been On A Cruise ?

So far I've been on five crusises, the first around the Bahamas for a few nights as a taster to cruising followed by various cruises around the Med and the Iberian coastline. Booked on another around the Canaries next Summer and then after that we're going to look at one around Scandinavia or take the Rocky Mountaineer train across Canada with a cruise near Alaska.

We love them, the food on every ship has been excellent and the service outstanding. Whenever we have come back from a cruise and go for a meal I always feel disappointed in the quality and service for the price paid. When you factor in all the various elements of whats on offer on a ship its always worked out at around £80 per day per person for us. I've never had a problem with getting dressed up for the odd formal night and quite simply if you don't want to do it then you don't have to. Every cruise I have been on you do what ever you want to do, there has never been any attempt at being asked to do anything we've never wanted to join in with. If you want to party then it's all there for you but if you want peace and quiet it's very easy to find. There is an abundance of food on offer, you end up spending half the cruise in the buffet, loads of bars, restauraunts, nightclubs, casinos, sports, ice skating and I even did rock climbing on our last cruise which I loved and would never have done it elsewhere.

We enjoy getting up every morning and going into a new port and some of the views that you see coming in from the sea are quite stunning especially those when you arrive around 5/6am and you catch the sun rising on the horizon, it really is the best way to enter a new town or City. Having done 5 cruises with the kids I can honestly say they have seen some of Europes most famous sights and have already had an amazing opportunity and experience to take into their adult life. An additional bonus to cruising is that we have seen lots of dolphins and whales in their natural habitat on numerous occasions and even the odd shark which has been fantastic. All our cruises have been taken around the summertime and school holidays and every ship we've been on has usually been a cross section of age groups from young couples, families and middle age folk. I've certainly never felt I was on a Butlins at sea or a floating OAP home which is what you usually see whenever a cruise programme is shown on tv.

Finally the one thing that I really love most about cruising is being out on deck on a quiet balmy night watching the sunset on the horizon of the sea which is always a stunning sight then having a quiet drink with great company just listening to the sea in the background and the stars above. Being away from it all out in the middle of nothing away from the everyday humdrum crap going on, can't be beaten for me.

All that ..... and then add Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke et al blasting away, and it's my kinda ship ... Roll on next month ... ;-)

I knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I am soooooooooooooooo jealous mate!

I missed Blackberry Smoke last time they played here, think it was the League Cup Final that day and my mate said he would get tickets for their gig at the Ritz and he forgot and it's now sold out Arghhhhh!! I might give the Ritz a ring to see if there are any returns.

We've done around 6 cruises so far... Love them!

I am duty driver when in Florida but on a cruise you simply walk out of your stateroom to dinner and the bar!!

Plus if you choose the right itinerary you see a new view outside your window most mornings...

Booked another trans-Atlantic for March

Can't recommend them highly enough

Quite fancy a transatlantic one next year. Any advice?

Did the Queen Mary 2 transatlantic a couple of years ago. I thought it might be a bit boring, as there are no stops, but surprisingly, it was the most relaxing week I've ever had.
You don't even have to miss a match, as they show so many live matches in the pub, which is the focal point of the ship.

We have been on about 20 cruises. The best holiday and value for money you can get.

I can see why someone would book a cruise around say Italy but wouldn't it be better to fly there and tour by car or train? That way you would be eating and drinking the local food & drink plus sampling the nightlife of the city rather than whats provided by the ship. Maybe it wouldn't be as relaxing but it would be more exciting.
