Anyone been to Turkey this year?

Still be very hot late August, liked Side when we went about 9 years ago.
We go to Turkey at least once every year.

Going to Belek again in late September.
Taking our grandson so don't want it too hot.
Belek is brilliant went last year.
Also been to kusadsi a few times.
Love everything about turkey it's brilliant

Spent last new year in Istanbul. Wonderful place with fantastic, friendly people. There was the small issue of the nightclub while I was there tho....

Saw a documentary on BBc2 I think about Turkey. Usually you don't learn much with these things but it opened my eyes to a good few things that aren't usually covered. What really surprised me was the infrastructure they have built for Syrian refugees - about 250,000 of them if I remember correctly. All in large, clean, safe camps with good sanitation, food aid, electricity. Really in total contrast to what has occurred in Europe. Whilst some of this is undoubtedly political in nature (Erdogan believes many Syrians will remain in Turkey and ultimately vote for him), they have spent billions on ensuring that they are well cared for. The other thing that struck me was the level of investment in Istanbul. Mind blowing. Was a well made programme and gave me good insight into modern Turkey.

Simon Reeve on bbc2 sunday pm 2nd part is on next week. Was a brilliant documentary that like you said highlighted a lot of the unseen. If Erdogan stays secular it could be a really prosperous country.

Its economy is already healthier than many EU members. The guy gets a bad press which may or may not be warranted but you can't argue about his contribution to improving the lives of the majority of Turkish population in terms of workers rights, healthcare, education and the infrastructure of the country.

Are you sure he's not a Roman?

A lot of the people love him because he bribes them with white goods when its time to vote even though they don't have electricity! :)

Back there in June ... our beloved Dalyan. (Been many times since 1994 ... also loved Kayakoy and Kas) We know it will be the same lovely place and people. But do worry for the future of the country.

Secular Turkey is embraced in the west and southern coastal areas, but go inland and further east, and the hands of that religion are trying to take it away from Attaturk's vision and efforts. Erdogan is in favour of that too ..... And for all he has done 'for the people', a huge amount of it is funded by tourism .... which it will lose.

Sad.

I think I'd rather rub shit into my eyeballs than have a holiday in turkey

How many times have you been?

Just checked out and on my way to Antalaya airport after our two weeks here in Side
Our first holiday in Turkey and it was fabulous
The people in the hotel were utterly fantastic
Food brilliant
Weather incredible
Some of the evening shows were terrific
The only downside was as it was all inclusive, evening meals were a little en mass and there always seemed to be one of us up and about
9/10
