Anyone remember Clive Wilson

He played more often as left back than anywhere else. He was actually a few years ahead of his time, being a solid dependable full back who was equally at ease going forward and taking men on, and delivering ood crosses. A bit unusual at the time, but now a prerequisite of any decent full back.

His brother lives facing me, maybe I should try to get a question and answers session!?

*Ponders whether to really knock on his brothers door and ask him*

One of my favourite City players of all time.He was a good left back but his main attribute at his best was being able to beat players -so for me he was wasted at left back.We sold him for 250 k -absolute joke.Selling him really wound me up even more than having Alistair Mackintosh as chief exec!!!

Remember him scoring at the swamp as well !!!!

Indeed, a diving header when we came from 2-0 down to gain a 2-2 draw.
The very next day we played Chelsea in the Full Members Cup final at Wembley.

Clive would have thrived in todays game and been worth a fortune.
I remember him turning forwards inside out with his skills on the edge of the City box, cool as fuck.
Sat amongst the City fans away at Grimsby, was probably one of the most popular City players of that time.
McNeill never wanted to sell him but we were skint and amazingly negotiated a loan back to City until the end of the season.

Surprised we have to ask who Clive was??

My favouriite all time City player, he was fuckin brilliant he played anywhere on the left side & was also good in the air although only about 5ft 6in.
He was given man of the match for around 10 games on the run during our 83/84 season
& for me, was by far our best player in the early to mid 80`s.
He was the reason i wanted to play left back for my sunday league team at the time so i could cultivate my left peg like `Clive the Jives`!!
A home grown talent and i remember Liverpool when they were in their pomp watching him for some time, went to chelsea from city then onto spurs & qpr, should have gained a bag full of england caps during his career.

i use to go to openshaw technical college when i left school and clive was there too while on citys books dont know what course he was on but he use to join in playing 5-a-side at dinner time really nice and down to earth lad. Also use to know his brother Gus when he played for the sunday league team astro ( great team ) he was a good player too think he played at crewe for a bit too.

Clive Wilson was a popular player at The Bridge when you sold him to us in '87. He had to battle for the left back slot with Tony Dorigo and as his ability to get forward was his strong point, we often played him further forward he was pretty skillful. Unfortunately for him, he played for us at a time when John Hollins was ruining the decent side he'd inherited and we got relagated in '88 to the old Div 2. We came straight back up the following season though (think you may have come back up with us?) and CW was with us until 1990. Fans were gutted when he left.

We seem to have had a few left backs exchanged down the years. Wilson, now Bridgey and there was also Terry Phelan in the 90's.
