Just because.

Lol!! ;-)

Go on then, give a serious reason.

There is a thread on it, don't worry the mods will merge in a minute...

to the o.p.
your name and address will now be on a data-base that employers can access for a fee, and although illegal, no one takes it seriously, bit like fox-hunting and tax avoidance and white-collar crime and bogus charities
anyway you dont qualify, all union members have to be fat bald and over thirty by definition( tough on women)

Why would anyone take tax avoidance seriously? It's all above board and legal. Ever heard of an ISA? That's tax avoidance.

You may mean tax evasion, which is illegal but you'd be wrong as it's taken very seriously. Cheers.

But you are learning a skill/trade! What about those collecting trolly's, flipping burgers or waiting staff? They are doing the same thing day in day out.

Oh and when i was 16/17 i was on £27.50 a week, in a YTS! I was just thankfull that i got dosh by other means! We don't need to stop 'earning' when the day job ends.....

im not learning fuck all mate, all i do is sit in an office taking phone calls from angry customers all day everyday. i would get a job on full time wages if i could but there is nothing where i live absolutaly nothing. I just dont see why it is so hard to pay aprentices NMW.

Apprenticeships are normally placed through a Learning Provider such as a college and there should be a written agreement as to what training should be provided. If you've been placed through a Learning Provider try to speak to them and raise your concerns, they may be able to advise you.

This.

Though the minimum wage for an Apprentice is £2.60 an hour so you are getting short changed on that anyway!

Find out which Unions organise for your trade or line of work and contact them.I`m sure they will give you all the advice you need. Don`t take any notice of the tory anti union dickheads who post on here, you have a fantastic idea, especially with all the attacks workers are facing at the moment. Go for it mate.

Yes, that is the way forward, a union for fucking tea boys and girls! This would be the killer for a lot of apprenticeships. I know i wouldn't take one on, if they enquired about unions. 'Tory dickhead" lol.

Tea boys and girls? piss off mate, you try working at £2.50 ph.

I believe alot of companys use this "apprenticeship" as a loop hole to pay young people like my self slave labour wages.

I think everyone who works (even as an apprentice) should be entitled to the NMW.

Are you joking mate 9yrs ago i was on £1.87ph i made £100 a week after tax while my mates lived it up on there £250 a week but i was happy a company took there 1 a year chance on me in front of everyone else and paid near on 40k a year to train me to become qualified. I never moaned about my pay or the way i was treated because i knew with the graft it would be well worth it. My mates are still on £250 a week and im not.
Apprenticeships are few and far between as it is, if they started a union you might as well spend school leaving kidswithout the grades to go uni down to the social

Edit
Seen a latter post i still stand by myself but it doesnt count for you

-- Tue May 29, 2012 7:42 pm --

Your being plain cheated mate to be honest. I agree apprenticeship wages are shite if your not learning but it means small companies can train lads and ladies in a skilled trade. If they went to NMW it would end apprenticeships pretty much kill them off in 1 swoop. Im sure you can do something about your "apprenticship" though as its not

Mainly because if you are getting a proper apprenticeship you have the chance to join a union in that trade. I was automatically put on my union as an apprentice and they handle my pension which is nice
I know im banging on but i really believe in apprenticeships and unions and NMW would just kill them off and that would be terrible as it would all go underhand risking exploitation of young lads anyway

Your post is a bit ambiguous BB85.

So you are saying apprenticeships can be good (which is something I agree with) but not Unions?

Why not? (if I've read your post correctly)

Well i believe your apprenticeship should enter to your union
Apprenticeships are far too varied to be able to get the same needs in the work place
I believe Unions or NMW for apprenticships will kill them off. What would be the point of the employer to have a no nowt 16 year old on silly money and pay for the learning fees when they have a union that could tell them to strike
Like i said things like this would send learning a skilled trade underground and risk young peoples health and rights more than a union could give them
