Mainly because if you are getting a proper apprenticeship you have the chance to join a union in that trade. I was automatically put on my union as an apprentice and they handle my pension which is nice
I know im banging on but i really believe in apprenticeships and unions and NMW would just kill them off and that would be terrible as it would all go underhand risking exploitation of young lads anyway

Your post is a bit ambiguous BB85.

So you are saying apprenticeships can be good (which is something I agree with) but not Unions?

Why not? (if I've read your post correctly)

Well i believe your apprenticeship should enter to your union
Apprenticeships are far too varied to be able to get the same needs in the work place
I believe Unions or NMW for apprenticships will kill them off. What would be the point of the employer to have a no nowt 16 year old on silly money and pay for the learning fees when they have a union that could tell them to strike
Like i said things like this would send learning a skilled trade underground and risk young peoples health and rights more than a union could give them

I'm not saying they should not be given a rate of pay that reflects their inexperience and their learning a trade though, I'm saying they should be allowed to have a voice if they wish. One that can speak up for any misdemeanours that they encounter without fear of reprisal and the employer simply saying 'next.'

I had that though and most do in the skilled trade works, most times you have a management team for apprentices and they look after you. Apprentices have the best protection going in work places, most cant be let go in a work place until liquidatian of a company. The company Bezz is talking about should be strung up as that is never an apprenticeship its a loophole. Workers will look after apprentices because like i did you feel a sense of pride from seeing them come through from nothing to qualified and working alongside you although they will always be your apprentice. I would worry Unions would mess things up for young lads who get great training and always looked after. Granted i cant speak for every company but i can speak for the 30 lads that came through with me who had the best 4 years ever and were looked after and were more safe in the workplace then the blokes who spent time training them everyday

I'm glad you were looked after, but what you should realise is that it's a big world out there with some employers who are utter sharks and quite happy to exploit at every given opportunity.

If an Apprentice wants some sense of protection and the legal right to look for advice then I don't see a problem.

Bezz,

Are you still having the same problems as you were in April? As dan says go and see your training provider.

If you don't have one and your employer is calling you an apprentice but not giving you any support or further learning then maybe take some legal advice.

Well as it seems there are now apprenticeships in stuff just so people can be exploited i would agree. I would just hope it doesnt hurt the real apprenticeships, Skilled work, i.e the sparkey, chippy, plumber etc are very well looked after and need no union apart from the one they are free to join in the trade they choose which will fight there corner. Apprenticeships are something i love in the old form its a shame they are being used as an exploitation although it may well of been done for years

Yes, that is the way forward, a union for fucking tea boys and girls! This would be the killer for a lot of apprenticeships. I know i wouldn't take one on, if they enquired about unions. 'Tory dickhead" lol.
Yep. just about sums you up you non union leech. i feel i`ve been here before with you.
He's the leech? Because he's non union in your eyes? Grow up.[/quote

The Tories on here don't half stick together don't they? A demonstration of comradely solidarity that warms the heart. You should form a union.

That the best you got? Label people Tories hoping the (perceived in your eyes) stigma scares them away? Tiresome dullards and also so very wrong. Never voted Tory but wouldn't be arsed if I had.

I'd not join a union though, not much call for it running a business.

How can i be a leech? Surely the union cunts are the leeches? You go on idolising bob crow as he drinks martinis in his park lane hotel, while you union boys top and tail in a premier inn. Fucking joker.
