The Gardeners Arms is in Northern Moor AND Wythenshawe.
Can't get my head round it.

That Kwik-Save was the only "supermarket" within walking distance of our house (loosely speaking, must have been well over a mile) and every Saturday I used to be used as a kind of ad-hoc pack mule to carry 4 bags of shopping per hand from the "Kwikkie" back to Ardwick, past the Red Rec, over the train tracks and back to our gaff near Bank Meadow.
Those cheap plastic bags used to be like cheese wire in my palms. The only upside was a hot Vimto at Grey Mare Lane market's "cafe" before the walk home.
They demolished Fort Beswick in the late 80's if I remember rightly, what a fucking carbuncle that place was.
Hmm if I'm thinking of the same place it was still there in 2003 (when I used to live around there) and was only ripped down a couple of years back. When the council started to build the new secondary school that's still being built on Grey mare lane now.

No, Fort Beswick (and Fort Ardwick) were knocked down late 80's. What they built in their place was then also knocked down as you say 9 years ago!
This picture is where I used to have to park and then walk down, through the middle of where the two buildings meet to get to Kwik Save.
Another of Fort Beswick
These two pictures are Fort Ardwick - for those too young to know, this was on Hyde Road, running from opposite the bus depot to the railway bridge (where the City Gates pub was)
In the 13th and 14th centuries Blackley was referred to as Blakeley or Blakelegh, a spelling that is consistent with the local pronunciation

Why's Norwich, No-rich yet Northwich, North-witch?
Why's Oldham such a fuckin' dump?
So many questions and so few answers.
