are we asset stripping?

It just goes to show how poor our negotiating skills are, 12 million for a player of carlos's ilk is just really bad business , regardless of him entering the last year of his contract.

For the 20 odd years i've followed city i've seen some insane money wasted on transfers , but this for me is the final nail in the coffin. Getting rebuffed for players is one thing, but letting arguably our most talented if not hard working player go for peanuts is just insane.

Might seem that way but take some of the points already made into consideration.
Final year of contract etc etc, Even when we first acquired Carlos' services were there that many teams in for him? four years later on and however good he has been (and I believe he has been the best striker we've had in my time watching City) we're getting a decent deal.

you need a smaller hook... with a bigger bait.. failing that a few months at Prestwich hospital should do the trick

tevez, balo, nige, aj all gone. not ONE replacement for any of them. well not worth having anyway,

NDJ - Fernandino
AJ - Navas

both arguably improvements also.

Striker addition(s) pending

I certainly think we let NDJ go too easily and now tevez. Not sure why we let two vital players slip away for well under their value.

Dont have an option really because both Tevez and NDJ would happily sit out the last 12 months and leave for a free the following months

Something is better than nothing and in todays financial climate very very few clubs let players worth any money go on a free no mater who they are
Do you think there was nothing we could do to secure a longer term contract for either of those players? Tevez has always looked on the verge of leaving but it seems strange that he has left now that Mancini has gone. De Jong always looked really happy at city and we let him go for next to nothing. Both of these players were key in our FA cup and title winning seasons.

We downgraded the team last summer, but this summer seems like upgrading (apart from Tevez)

Pellegrini > Mancini
Fernandinho> Garcia
Navas > Sinclair

How is Pellegrini an upgrade on Mancini?

Mancini lost the dressing room and it was evident last season he was no longer able to get consistent performances out of them, with the high level of football they are capable of scarcely seen. So almost by default Pellegrini is an upgrade because the players don't despise him, nor do they want him out.

And despite his lack of trophies in Europe (more by lack of opportunities/platform than anything for the majority of his stay) I believe you'll soon see why he is so highly rated and why he was Barcelona's #1 choice if Tito stepped down and why he was Bayern Munich's #2 choice behind Pep.

A fantastic bit of business by our club, getting rid of Tevez in the final year of his contract when he was going to walk away for nothing. Saved us in the region of 17million in wages and bonuses in final year plus we got 10/12 million as a fee is very smart work.

The reality is Tevez would have cost circa 27 mill for this season, madness to keep him.

Yes we do now need a replacement but we have some money to get one plus a hell of a lot of wages of the payroll, a no brainer.
