They could have avoided the extent of last season 's disaster plus this panic fueled splurge we've just witnessed and ended up spending a lot less and in a much more.....errrr......organic way.

That's an interesting thought. It has the ring of truth too, that maybe they really did believe all those coming through would be world class and they didn't need to buy. If nothing else, if it wasn't that, the alternative is they just let it drift through ineptitude. How delicious, two equally joyous fuck ups to choose from!
