Are we living in a dictatorship or a Democracy?

Re benefits the Gov has always been able to access bank accounts of claimants via the Social Security Act but, ONLY if fraud is suspected i.e. the person is under investigation.

Strikes me this new 'idea' assumes everyone is at it, maybe the Tories shouldn't act as though they think the public are as dishonest as they are.
Not strictly 100% accurate, the Act only came into legislation in 1992, but apart from me being pedantic, yes, it was possible to obtain bank statements ONLY for the purposes of proving or disproving allegations of fraud (although I am sure that other law enforcement agencies would have had the ability to obtain financial accounts before this)

The Government may snoop on the bank accounts of state pensioners!!! How dare this repulsive, disgusting, repellent bunch of liars and (alleged) fraudsters who give billions to their friends by way of false contracts, snoop on pensioners who have worked all their lives and paid their taxes? I am beyond disgusted, beyond comprehension and beyond being a glass half full person. This has upset me so much, not for myself, the only money I have going into my bank account is my State Pension and my Teachers Pension. I claim no benefits but I do have friends who have to because of health problems.
I cannot express how humiliated I would feel if they snooped on my bank account, probably the last piece of privacy we have.

Sorry but .... daft old woman I know.... I have got emotional about this. This is not the country I love and have defended all my life.
Rant over. Apologies.

You do get benefits.
Your state pension is part of the benefits bill.
But as neither your state pension, nor your teachers pension have any restrictions based on savings or are means tested they won’t be looking at your account.

That isn't what I wrote, what I did write is that there really isn't a true meritocracy and Communism isn't the answer.

Even Commies like you should have understood that :)

Probably not given we are imperfect, but we can try to make things fairer and create environments which allow more people to thrive and prosper. After all, it’s not as if doing the exact opposite has been a resounding success.

They want out of the ECHR so they can be even more dictatorial.

When they came out with that shit about 'taking back control' what they meant was that Tory twats would have untrammelled power over all of us. The idea they were giving control to us was laughable. You had to be unbelievably naive to think otherwise.

The so-called democracy in this country is an elected dictatorship for five years at a time. To make it worse, the dictators are almost always elected by a minority of voters. Checks and balances, such as the courts, infuriate them because they want absolute power, like Hitler, Stalin or Julius Caesar.

Do not be conned by these vermin. If you are a normal person, they don't give a shit about you. It sickens me when so-called working class people think their interests align with these swine. News flash - they don't!

perhaps someone wiser will come along and tell me i'm wrong but i think that when the Greeks invented democracy the idea was based on the simple premise that if you are going to let the whole population vote on matters of importance then it is necessary to give them an extremely good education so that their decisions are well-founded, knowledgable and for the betterment of all.

nowadays they make damned sure the hoi polloi are very poorly educated and haven't got a clue what the fuck they are voting for, so i don't think it's fair to call us a democracy as such, especially as it is often the case that political parties are lead by unelected people who can change the laws to their own advantage, at their own whims, whilst lining the pockets of their school chums who in turn give a nod to the bankers to do as they please at our expense.

that said, it's not a dictatorship either.
not until they start cancelling the pointless so-called elections and staying in power regardless of what anyone wishes to vote for or against.

in 1831 only 2% of the population were allowed to vote.
has anything actually changed for the better since then?

we are all slaves, don't kid yourself otherwise.
it's just that nowadays they pretend to give us some semblance of freedom whilst skanking the fuck out of us and in doing so force people to work themselves to death in order to pay the bills to keep themselves alive, just like they always have, nothing's changed, we are and always will be peasants to these people who lord over us.

the best thing to do @Eccles Blue is make a cup of tea or pour yourself a glass of wine, don't watch the news, try to let none of it bother you, smile broadly and count your blessings because there is absolutely nothing we can do to change the system so we may as well simply enjoy the small pleasures in life, because the small pleasures are all we have.

Yeah we're trying but knowing a little about human nature and how you can't please all of the people all of the time I put that down to 6th form politics practiced by the political version of theoretical physicists.

There will ALAWYS be someone who doesn't thrive in a certain system either by design or believe it or not by choice.
