Are we living in a dictatorship or a Democracy?

perhaps someone wiser will come along and tell me i'm wrong but i think that when the Greeks invented democracy the idea was based on the simple premise that if you are going to let the whole population vote on matters of importance then it is necessary to give them an extremely good education so that their decisions are well-founded, knowledgable and for the betterment of all.

nowadays they make damned sure the hoi polloi are very poorly educated and haven't got a clue what the fuck they are voting for, so i don't think it's fair to call us a democracy as such, especially as it is often the case that political parties are lead by unelected people who can change the laws to their own advantage at their own whims whilst lining the pockets of their school chums who in turn give a nod to the bankers to do as they please at our expense.

that said, it's not a dictatorship either.
not until they start cancelling the pointless so-called elections and staying in power regardless of what anyone wishes to vote for or against.

in 1831 only 2% of the population were allowed to vote.
has anything actually changed for the better since then?

we are all slaves, don't kid yourself otherwise.
it's just that nowadays they pretend to give us some semblance of freedom whilst skanking the fuck out of us and in doing so force people to work themselves to death in order to pay the bills to keep themselves alive, just like they always have, nothing's changed, we are and always will be peasants to these people who lord over us.

the best thing to do @Eccles Blue is make a cup of tea or pour yourself a glass of wine, don't watch the news, try to let none of it bother you, smile broadly and count your blessings because there is absolutely nothing we can do to change the system so we may as well simply enjoy the small pleasures in life, because the small pleasures are all we have.

It was never the whole population that had the right to vote, you could argue the myth of democracy started there but that would take a masters degree and 3 trees worth of paper to prove conclusively.

i knew someone wiser would correct me on the specifics but i'm sure you realise the point i was clumsily attempting to make.

I am neither wiser or correcting you really, I don't believe democracy exists I do however believe that we are as near to democracy as we can possibly get without morphing into an energy source and exploring the universe as energy life forms ;)

is being near to a democracy anything at all like being an actual democracy though?
i don't think it is.
i think it is a circus that we are all forcibly made to pay entry for and are ultimately disappointed by come the end of the show.

i am, however, all for exploring the universe as energy life forms :)
why not?
what we now call Britain was uninhabited for about 5,000 years because of ice and when it melted people from somewhere else migrated here in search of a chance of a better life, so in reality we are all immigrants down the line and we should all fuck off back to where we came from, shouldn't we?
and taking that a step further, it is entirely possible that life on our planet came via impacts from other worlds so, following reason, we should fuck off back to where we came from elsewhere in our universe.

imagine though, if we managed to relocate to one of the moons of a distant planet and then found that the locals too were already under heavy surveillance by their own lords, who in turn were monitoring the banking details of their peasantry, surely not.

We are pack animals and our society only thrives or has a chance of thriving if there is a common purpose, we dilute that common purpose and if we take it too far we risk upsetting the apple cart and will actually cause social unrest.

The light source theory is our only way out mate :)

as Virgil (not the one from the bin dippers nor the one from thunderbirds) said...
sic itur ad astra!

Yeah we're trying but knowing a little about human nature and how you can't please all of the people all of the time I put that down to 6th form politics practiced by the political version of theoretical physicists.

There will ALAWYS be someone who doesn't thrive in a certain system either by design or believe it or not by choice.

I don’t require people to thrive. I would like people to be given the opportunity to thrive. What they do with that opportunity is entirely down to them. And thriving takes different forms and is different from contentment. We all have different skill sets, life goals, ambitions etc. Give people the opportunity to achieve their personal goals, no matter what they are - even if that life goal is to do fuck all. An ambition I can currently relate to.

That is communism, comrade. All working for the common good and with common purpose, da?

You've said things.
Those things are disjointed.
Implementation of these things are unachievable.

I like your thought process Bob but the things you mention are theoretical surely?
