Are You Officially Priced Out Yet, Or Almost?

Just not buying this argument mate. Not all the top clubs do it. Take a look at the Germans pricing and Uli's comments.

The German model is distinctly different than the UK model, as are the stadia, where you can have a standing section. Also, there are about TWO teams over there with money and the rest of the teams act like feeder clubs! Heck, one of the top two teams has been the Bayern feeder club the past few years!

You can't point to Bayern and Dortmund and try to extrapolate that to City. Well, you CAN, but the argument loses it's thrust quickly. Bayern plays in a bigger stadium and is about the only club in Germany, so it has the best stadium, best quality sponsors, who pay the biggest money, yet make the same annual revenue as City. Then again, if you are German and want to play for the "almost" German national team in München, then you will take €100,000 per week rather than €200,000..... Because you get to live at home, play at home, and STILL make up the difference with German sponsors who want you name and face associated with your products. Tell me the ENGLISH players who have big sponsorship deals with ENGLISH companies? Hart & Head and Shoulders?! PMSL.

Just be glad you are not a lifelong Spurs fan! Their CHEAPEST TICKET is more expensive than our most expensive one.....and they don't have the new stadium with brilliant sight lines from every seat and a few pots in the trophy case over the past few years and regular CL football! Or The Arse, where you need a second mortgage for a season ticket....and you celebrate like you won the league when you squeak into Fourth and a CL Qualifier!

Being a City fan has never been easy. It used to be you paid reasonable money to watch dross and be laughed at by your friends and neighbours. Now, we win something every year, watch the best football we have ever seen, and we even get to test our mettle against the worlds best teams (Real Madrid, Dortmund, Bayern and Barca have all been here in the past few years). Sadly, it has cost a pretty penny to get there and we now have to pay a few extra quid for the pleasure. Fair dos, in my book, but then I'm not the person who thinks saving a tenner a week for a seasoncard is an outrageous expense. For those that do, I'm sure most games will be on their Sky box at home, or down the pub.....both of which are far more expensive options.

To each their own.

The debate isn't really about Seasoncards though as I think many have said they actually think they are reasonable value for money.

It's about the dad who wants to take his 2 lads to a city game, has to fork out a fortune just to become a member and then pay close on £100 for the tickets. His day out is costing £200 plus and that just can't be right.

You shouldn't have to pay to give you the right to buy a ticket and there should be family deals for this type of fan.

Instead, Those 2 lads don't get to go, dad loses a bit of interest, the 2 lads don't have any affiliation to city other than supporting us because their dad does.

I suffered the shit years because it was absolutely in me, my dad had taken me since I was 7. I had stood on the Kippax, sat in the platt lane, north stand and Main stand, seen us come back from the abyss at Wembley against Gillingham. It is part of me, it will never go away. Breaking away for me would be so hard after all these years, if I can afford my ST I will go until I can no longer get there.

Fans like me will eventually become too old to go and we need replacing. This new marketing tactic is short sighted and choosing tourist cash over local support is tainted in my opinion.

Its greed on the clubs part and for me it's just wrong.

Very well said.

There are some weak arguments supporting the price rise.

One said it was as expensive to have sky or go to the pub. Well sky costs cover away games aswell as European games, plus 3 pints down the pub is less than a tenner. This is without the cost of travel and parking.

Another argued that it costs the same to go and watch concerts etc, but these are one offs not just 1 of 19 games.

Others say that the club is giving us something special to watch and it needs paying for, which I can't argue with except that an extra tenner on a ticket for blue members brings in just over £2 million per season, which in the grand scheme of things is peanuts to the club.

I will probably fork out for the Liverpool game but will give Stoke a miss, If they were both decently priced I would have gone to both. Liverpool will be a great atmosphere, Stoke will not be so good, although still sold out , there will be many tourist fans and a quiet atmosphere. I just hope I can get a season ticket in the new stand and the tickets aren't snapped up by people relocating from areas that have also priced people out of their seats.

Its the 1st home game of the season against Liverpool, the biggest football family in the world, the Champions v the Shouldhavebeen Champions, the tickets were bound to be dearer than normal, every game wont cost this.

oh thats ok then. how much do you think the stoke tickets will be.

btw what would you class as 'normal'
less than the Liverpool tickets
They are from £44. A 57% increase on last season. They are £3 cheaper than the derby, £6 cheaper than Barca in the last 16

You are kidding arent you?

My Sky costs for the year are a couple of hundred less than my seat. And if I spent my ticket costs down the pub on matchday I'd need a new liver.

As for a tenner a week, couple of hundred short I'm afraid.

No season cards for £520? Or do you need second tier Colin Bell Stand?

One issue is this:

you charge 60 for a ticket and a fan might pay it for a top game
but then in a wet Wednesday night against watford in a cup game, they won't show.

Other fans might pay 40 a ticket, but then WOULD pay 30 for the cup game.

The moment they feel ripped off, they stop going the extra mile, and that can hurt in the long run.

Decisions, decisions....

So, are we saying you have to be from Manchester and guaranteed a cheap ticket? Do the laws of supply and demand not apply to the "under the dome" area that is the Etihad?

If Stoke is a sell out, it means that the tickets were UNDER PRICED, or priced exactly right......from a business perspective.

I don't want to be cold, but the club does make cheaper season cards available...you just don't get to demand where you will sit. Choice costs money. If you are married, you might already have learned this the hard way, like me! ;)

I'm sure there is £520 season tickets. And £750+ season tickets. We can't all sit in the cheapest seats unfortunately.

But £520 does sound familiar. That was around the price of my CB2 ticket (maybe £50 more) when I moved there around 6/7 years ago. You know, back when there was less than 40, 000 prepared to support the club each week and we needed loyalty from our core supporters to keep the club afloat.

The cheapest are non-concession early price adult could renew this season was £575 gold/£625 will full loyalty points SS Lower.

More than inflation next year and I'm out.
I wouldn't mind if it was just the season ticket. But travelling 95 miles and 95 miles back costs.
