Are you proud to be a Manc?

Manchester - The Beautiful South - 2006

From Northenden to Partington, it's rain
From Altrincham to Chadderton, it's rain
From Moss Side to Swinton, hardly Spain
It's a picture postcard of 'Wish they never came'
And whilst that deckchair in the garden it makes no sense
It doesn't spoil the view or cause offense
Those Floridas, Bavarias and Kents
Make gentlemen wear shorts but don't make gents
So convertible stay garage bound
Save after sun for later
If rain makes Britain great
Then Manchester is greater
As you dry your clothes once again
Upon the radiator
What makes Britain great
Makes Manchester yet greater
From Cheetham Hill to Wythenshawe, it's rain
Gorton, Salford, Sale, pretty much the same
As I'm caught up without my jacket once again
The raindrops on my face play a sweet refrain
And as winter turns reluctantly to spring
For the clouds above the city there's one last fling
Swallows build their nests, chaffinch sing
And the sun strolls into town like long lost king
So convertible stay garage bound
Save after sun for later
If rain makes Britain great
Then Manchester is greater
As you dry your clothes once again
Upon the radiator
What makes Britain great
Makes Manchester yet greater
And the mood of this whole sodden place is melancholy
Like the sun came out to play, shone through the clouds
But dropped its lolly
And everyone looks so disappointed, so, so sorry
Like the rain blew into town, kidnapped the sun
And stole its brolly
So convertible stay garage bound
Save after sun for later
If rain makes Britain great
Then Manchester is greater
As you dry your clothes once again
Upon the radiator
What makes Britain great
Makes Manchester yet greater

I've Got the Manc in me

I've Got the Manc in me

I've Got the Manchester in me

I was born in Crumpsall Hospital too. Lived on Crumpsall Lane until I was 7, when we moved to Wilmslow. Lived in Cheshire for 20 odd years and then moved to the Thames Valley due to a company relocation.

Once a Manc...
Absolutely.
I lived on Sherdley Road (behind the primary school, which I attended). Any time I've been back has felt like going home.

I was having an argument with a rag yesterday on fb. The jist of it was he put oil after our name. I said so your Saudi partners and new owner who is in the petrochemical business is OK. His reply was Manc.
I said thanks for that born and bred. Stupid rag c7nt.

Probably as much Lancashire as Manc since I grew up and went to school 6 miles outside. But my early childhood pleasures were mostly in "town" going to Wiles toy shop on Market St. and the UCP cafeteria, later on Belle Vue zoo and speedway. Moved away and then further away but I still have the accent and hope to have my ashes scattered somewhere around the North.
Sad what's happened to it.
