Hopefully Alvarez can go and score the winner. Got money on a work sweepstake so need Mbappe to be top scorer on 7 goals. So a 3-2 win or win on pens for Argentina would be excellent as backed them to beat France in the final.
I’ve got Argentina in our sweepstake and due £100 if they win it also I bet on Alvarez for golden boot so was livid when they took him off the other day and when he didn’t start group games. I would have thought they would have took messi off to save him for the final as Pep said about Alvarez he is a kid and could play every day if he wanted

I'm going to be completely two faced here, retract all my hate for Argentina and be cheering Alvarez on.

Plus I hope Messi gets to lift the trophy in his last world cup, fuck the French ponces.
Just seen footage of their players singing about us and the Falklands, calling us ‘putos’ which seems to mean gay prostitutes. They can get fucked I’m supporting neither team

Getting offended by that is like the Germans getting offended by the "German bombers" song. It is part of football culture, not to be taken literally.

Do you really think that folks like Aguero, Zabaleta, etc., who have lived on England for a big part of their lives and surely have a lot of respect and love for England and their people, really sing that song (and make no mistake, they have sang it many times during their lives) with any other intention than just sparking footballing banter?

I don’t know. Working in a country doesn’t always mean you like it afaik. I was led to believe putos is a bad thing to say and has homophobic connotations? Please correct me if wrong and it’s simple footy banter.

Like many terms within languages, there isn't a literal translation, but the closest I could think of is the F word, but not with the same power that it has on the English language.

Just to give you an example, many folks would call their best friends "putos" as a friendly banter. "Hey puto, what are we doing tonight?"

As with everything, it is a matter of intent and context.

Edit to add a football example:

as a River Plate fan, I might sing a song that says "los de Boca son todos putos" (Boca fans are all fag**ts) and my Boca friends and family memebers (all of them which I love) wouldn't take any kind of personal offense. It is just a song that we sing on a football context.

It is caveman like and ignorant? Yeah, but nobody really means it.

France will have far too much for that Argie back line if they show up on the day. Can only see a 3-1 win. At least we can then say we were knocked out by the winners and gave them a great game, I suppose.

Without Messi and his magic, Argentina really would be bang average.

I thought "puto" meant prostitute, or whore. Possibly used as an insult to ladies?
