Arsenal (A) | Community Shield | Post-match Thread

i dont understand the massive celebrations when you know you got away with one, it just smacks of not having moved on and not recognising your own limitations, its very much the same as liverpool celebrating in front of their crowd after snatching a draw with west brom
Agree. A scruffy injury time goal after they got done by a team that was blowing through it's arse, should have merited a little fist punch. To acknowledge they were relieved to get away with one.

I think they celebrated abot OTT

But I think it's the tv companys that are making this friendly into something it isnt. Liverpool last season all the take about what's his name being better than Haaland. The first silverware of the season. Its bollocks it's a friendly with teams that arent match fit.

It's only fairly recent that it's been broadcast or is that my age.

I chose not to go as I dont like Wembley, I dont like the hassle of getting across London. Not really that interested in watching two under cooked teams. Not interested in paying the Wembley rip of prices. Arsenal had a 10 minute walk to the match and are use to paying silly prices.

How much was a ticket ?
£35

My views are probably a bit skewered by my pre match expectations but I had the impression watching it that we were just toying with them for most of the game.

It felt like one team were desperate to win and the other just working on getting a bit of football under their belts.

Obviously I’d have rather won than lost. But when we are putting together 12 or 14 game winning streaks at the end of the season, whilst other teams are completely spent, then I look at days like this as the reason we’re able to do that. And I know which I’d prefer.

The Champions or Double Winners should be offered the option,by the FA, of holding the CS at their home ground or Wembley.

Some would opt for Wembley for the novelty, City would probably opt for the Etihad for the convenience and consideration of our fans.

In the case of Double Winners they should also have the option of choosing the opponent including a foreign opponent.

City v ......make your choice !!
I suppose Wembley’s got to be paid for somehow, so it’ll always be Wembley.

Not really, we could wait on him just like Real are waiting for Mbappe on a free.

Pay you guys absolutely nothing and him a nice signing fee!

BTW it is interesting how Arteta couldn't come up with a gameplan so used Inters tactics from the UCL final where they pressed further up the field & tried to use their pace on the counter.

Didn't really work though as even then it took a crazy deflection.. fine margins!
Wait three years to sign a player on a free, assuming he has the intention of running his contract down simply to head your way? Is that really a plan though?

I dont think thats in anyone's plans.

What I took most from the game is that the front two of Haaland and Alvarez didn't work. We had Rodders and Kovacic in the holding roles and Stones stayed back ,which meant their press with three men in midfield worked . Alvarez should have been the outlet to break the press and get us into attacking positions but he is not a midfielder and found it difficult. On top of this , we had wingers that stayed wide and keep the ball but don't tend to beat their man. So the first half we had Haaland who was isolated and are attack was toothless. Their main attack came from Saka, who does beat his man.
All of this changed with the introduction of De Bruyne as we had had an outlet to beat their press. We also had two wingers who were prepared to beat their men. Silva replaced Kovacic who has more attacking intent.
I think we do have the personnel to win the league again but Arsenal will be a thorn in our side. Arteta has been a good team by spending a lot of money and by imitating our approach. He even had four centre backs ffs

Disappointed to lose, any blue saying otherwise is kidding no one. Anyway, good win on Friday and off we go for the new season.

I

If thats the future of following City Im out.Fucking awful, it really was.

Sure some of the newbies have the best intention but Jesus, few proper Blues tried but pissing in the wind.

We are United/Arsenal/Liverpool now but play in Blue.
I feel your frustration.

They'll be a point this season where Pep will once again say "Where are our fans? We need you to make the Etihad feel like a Galatasary home game"

If he does someone should direct him to whoever decided a fan base of passionate blues isn't the right "brand" for the club and give that **** a slapping.

I guess it means different things to different supporters.

I personally regard it as a pre-season game and a chance to improve fitness. A win is a bonus, but I actually couldn't care about the result.

Rags and dippers tend to glorify their wins of the CS, and dismiss it when they lose. City fans are generally much more realistic as individuals .

You choose, but please don't generalise for all supporters.

Do one.

The season ticket holders who decided not to go dictated that our end would be full of tourists.

That’s not a criticism btw. But you can’t really turn down a ticket to a game and then complain about who takes it up.

I get your point.

It's for another thread really to discuss.

I believe Arsenal are going to have a trophy parade before the forest game around Islington to celebrate destroying the famous Man City.

Similar view - I was expecting a lot more from Arsenal and thought they'd stretch us a lot more than they did. Liverpool gave us a much tougher game in last year's game. I was encouraged by how easily we dealt with the Arse.

Plenty of bellends in our end, specifically the lower tier behind the goal, on Sunday.

You knew what sort of crowd it was going to be, you knew about the boycott, you knew and could see around you that there were a lot of children and families in areas they wouldn't be for a cup final or important game.

Why spend all day disrespecting people who aren't standing up, calling them not real fans and genuinely being nasty, vile and abusive to them? And I was one of those who you were targeting because I had my wife and son with me, and I'm a better fan than you who were clearly smacked off your tits from the powder with your man bags.

We have an element of idiots within our support, which I suspect most clubs do, that just want to pile into the same row as their mates and be a general nuisance to all around them. I've seen it all before but there were a lot of young kids, tourists etc. in our end on Sunday and it looks unwelcoming and quite pathetic.

Grow the fuck up.

If one game that never sells out makes the difference to Wembley's viability, the FA have bigger problems than we think.

International games get played in the province's, so why not the occasional CS.

There is NO justifiable reason that stands scrutiny....It's pure BOLLOCKS that we're all to lazy to challenge.

Viva 1894 and the BLACK FLAG BOYCOTT !!
