Arsenal (A) - PL Post Match Thread

Reminded me of the game at the swamp during the covid season when we played out a dull 0-0.
Unfortunately, we got done at the end due to a massive slice of luck for Arsenal.
Three domestic away games, all defeats without Rodri tells its own story..

While we had our best season ever last year, I'm not sure it was the best team or indeed football we've seen under Pep
Having a bloke who scored so many goals took some of the pressure off the team early in the season and meant that at the business end of the season while he was no longer scoring we had a few players who hadn't run out of juice.

It was and still is debatable whether a striker in the Haaland mode is a good fit for the way we play. And with the absence of Kev and Ilkay it's just a bit more obvious.

Not saying we should sell him but we probably need to alter our possession heavy game to get the best out of him.
Dry poor today and v wolves getting marked out of the game by decent defenders his first touch is poor. I’d never have him out of the team cause of what he can do but it’s up to pep and city to find a solution

Didn't seem like anyone wanted to force the issue at all today, there's a lack of drive in some of the newer players.

The de Bruyne replacement becomes more of an impending issue each week - we clearly don't have anyone at the club even close to replacing him

I’m slightly disappointed in Foden as like you say his development has stagnated a bit in the last season or so but he has all the tools to do it and I’m sure he will get back on track. Disappointed with Johnny Stones coming on because that means he will now play 180 minutes for that twat waistcoat
It's the first thing I thought also regarding Stones, No doubt waistcoat will start him now 90 minute games and end up injured again.

It’s not an easy watch when we play so passively and, as a fan, the overwhelming desire for control takes away a huge amount of our attacking options which is frustrating. Whilst we didn’t deserve to lose we certainly didn’t deserve to win either and a defected goal was probably always how it was going to be settled.
We can’t win all the time and at some stage there was always going to be a fall off. We look forward to Rodri coming back and a fully fit Stones and despite not being at our best we haven’t lost any ground so it’s onwards and upwards after the international break!

What a load of disappointing shit that game was.

If only we’d got one of Rice or ideally Bellingham.

Time to reset and go on a really long winning streak now. Put this shit behind us and start showing the City of the past few seasons.

lost a lot of big players and missing a few big players, new signings still setting in
It’s frustrating not seeing us perform to levels we have seen in the past but there is nothing wrong with the club at all, we’re just going through a small transition
We will be in the mix with 10 games to go and let’s see who’s got the bottle to see it out

The managers and the players will be pissed off they lost to a rival but they all know it’s nothing in the scheme of a season

But to be honest they created fuck all either..it wasn't a great game all round but no way will Arselona win the league
Nope, agreed. like us they'd had 1 shot on target before then. But that's 1 more shot on target then some teams have had. In the big scheme of things it means nothing but would be nice to keep them in their place.

Yeah but I can't see them as main challengers being totally honest..top 3 or 4 at best..
We are a different beast when Rod and Kdb are back

Didn't deserve to win that.

But got unlucky - bad deflection.

If anything is really obvious.. it's that Rodri is our best player and him out for 3 games meant 3 defeats!
Arsenal didn't deserve to win any more than we did. Nor did Wolves (another deflection goal) Missed Rodri - yes - but one goal scored in those 3 defeats worries me more than Rodri's absence. No striking options on the bench is another worry. Taking Alvarez off with Erling not on his game was wrong. Our rivals have more striking options than us. But we're still the best all round team and I expect us to win the title again and possibly the Champions League again. I'm happy with our 4 signings, particularly Doku and Guardial. Get a 3rd striker in January and we are sailing.

How we missed a Aguero type striker today, create something himself. Not sure what Pep can do, it was a really poor transfer window when other clubs strengthened. Not sure if it’s FFP related but the purchases were not top drawer. Gundo said we moved too late to offer him terms, Laporte wanted to stay, and was a mistake in selling him. Mahrez was a much better player than given credit for. Kova, Nunes, Doku jury still out, and who actually sanctioned the Philips deal. Think we stood still transfer wise after last season. I’m sure Pep will get it sorted and the club will open the cheque book in January. I did find it interesting how Pep was obsessing with the CL, then qualified the statement about qualifying asap. Just wonder if the focus is on back to back CL.Only 2 points off the top so nothing to worry about at this stage. Pep said as long as we are in touching distance come February… and not like we haven’t done it before.

Watched it with my old fella and we were saying about when Pep came in and dropped Aguero cos he demanded more from him apart from scoring goals and found it weird that the same isn’t being demanded of Haaland
