There was a common purpose between Arsenal and City fans for a number of years, most discernibly from 1996 to 2008, for reasons which I don't need to expand upon, which made the bile which was directed towards us from many Arsenal fans, following the takeover, particularly hard to take. I would say that Arsenal fans took our change in fortune as badly as any set of supporters, even united's - possibly because at the time, buoyed by so many years of almost unbridled success, and all too aware of City's previous hard-wiring to self-destruct, their supporters were cocooned from any sense of threat to their clubs enduring hegemony.

What especially stuck in the craw was the widespread suggestion from many of your supporters that we did not deserve this because our club somehow lacked "history" and this served to annoy for two reasons:

Firstly, because it shows a complete lack of understanding and respect for what was (and is) a leading English footballing institution. It may not have won as many trophies as Arsenal in recent years, but City's narrative, the real history of any football club, is as interesting as any other cub in the land. Anyone who fails to appreciate the currency of this doesn't really 'get' what it is to be a football supporter.

Secondly, because it was espoused by Arsenal fans who were ignorant, or willfully blind, to their own club's dubious past: buying their way into the First Division at the expense of Spurs; the highly questionable business practices of Henry Norris; George Graham's bungs; the Danny Fizman cash injection (aka: investment) in the 1990's; the naked self-greed of the club's central role at the vanguard of forming the TV deals in the late 80's and early 90's at others club's expense; as well as their wholly selfish membership of the G-14, are all examples which many of your supporters conspicuously avoid reconciling when talking about "earning" the right to sit at the top table. Possibly because they aren't aware of them. People pontificating about "history" really should do a bit more research on their chosen subject.

That is why you see so much vitriol directed towards so many of your supporters from City fans both on here and more generally.

No-one likes a hypocrite, especially one that turns on you when you have a bit of good fortune in life.

It does seem, after all, that you can buy class. Perhaps you should take that banner down, just like united did once we'd rammed it down their throats. That would show a bit of "class" hitherto all too sadly lacking from many people connected with your club.

Oh ffs.. was gonna post that too...thats the last time I pm you my ideas!!! ;)

He's a **** for that, i once mailed him that i was going to act all posh on the forum for shits and giggles, next thing i know, he's suddenly from Cheshire and has a butler.
I suppose you're now going to try and take credit for "The Movement" logo.

I did actually go to the emirates wondering if the banner is still there after spending 40m on Ozil... It is. Anyway its just a banner, I never thought of it as an attack at Man city, more at the press for having a go at us for never spending any money.

fairly sure it went up first against us

Wenger is just protecting his players, after getting hammered 6-3 the last thing you want to hear is that you cant compete with this team. I would expect every top manager to say what he said.

Oh perleaseeee, only a dick would say 'We gave them (City) 5 of the goals ! Moans that 3 offside decisions went against them, that we are no better than Everton and that they could have won that game.

A decent manager would make sensible comments, praise us and say that they will return next week, smarter, stronger better.

Which decent manager would do that, not mourinho, not fergie, not wenger. Maybe some do but its very rare. Plus arsenals biggest problem is beating any top team, so confidence is a very big thing thats why I feel he was especially protective in this case.

As have Arsenal.

Arsenal also 'bought' titles, unless the likes of Petit, Bergkamp, Overmars, Ljungberg, Henry, Jeffers (had to get that one in!) Vieira etc. etc. were all academy graduates....

City's recent form since the Sunderland game:

Spurs H Won 6-0
Plzen H Won 4-2
Swansea H Won 3-0
Brom A Won 3-2
Saints A Drew 1-1
Bayern A Won 4-2

Arsenal H Thrashed 6-3

Now, if we talk about form we talk about it in the present, not what has been. It's clear to me that our form is on a steady rise and the signs are very good indeed.

Bring it on.

Puts it into perspective..

Your away form is improving but you need to keep it up. starting at fulham and then swansea after that.
Looking at both their recent performances I'm more than confident that we will pick up points at both of them. We've also got Liverpool and Palace at home over this period and from what I'm seeing it could be full points.

What you're saying is that we may lose our away games but you're going to win all yours. There's no promise that you will beat Chelsea before going on the road to West Ham and Newcastle. Looking at those I can see you dropping points against Chelsea and Newcastle but I'm fairly certain you'll get maximum points from the Hammers and Cardiff.

As I said earlier, it's not going to be smooth sailing from either team and don't be surprised to see yourself off the top spot come the New Year.

Good luck though.

The only time Man city will get praise from Arsene Wenger is in May if you win the league. Until then expect more dismissive talk.

A lot of what you post makes perfect sense.

Do the fans that attend think this way now?
