I would assume that companies that are exporting into the EU at the moment would simply continue to work within the EU regulation framework as they do at the moment, I wouldn't have thought that would have caused a major problem. On the other hand if British standards change then it would be up to EU exporters into the UK to comply with those, If they're making money I'm sure they would keep up with current regs.
The problem is that at the moment as a member of the single market we don't have to prove that we are complying with EU regulations, once we leave the EU we have to prove compliance every time goods cross borders. Lots of paperwork, customs delays and costs.

Cheers for the reply,so doe's no Country within the EU have to prove their exporters actually work to European standards to export within the single market, Jesus that's frightening. Many Countries outside the EU do export in though so it's not impossible or looking at the amount of Chinese goods and Korean perhaps not that difficult to meet the regulations.

We can have mutual recognition of conformity assessment procedures under an UK-EU agreement. Already under WTO laws both the UK and the EU base their regulations on international standards.

Suppliers might have to prove to their customers( by various means) before they supply to them.
Thereafter it will be a contractual requirement of the supply.
The gods will pass through customs with no checks if both supplier and customer are in the EU.
In the case of China / Korea the EU will have agreed MRAs for the goods, supplier will need to demonstrate to customer of compliance with MRA once prior to supply, thereafter continuing supply will be contractual. Goods will pass through customs with no checks on submission of MRA paperwork with goods.

We can but please be aware the EU will not agree with the UK to MRAs for all goods and recognition of equivalence for all services.
That's a crafty way of getting membership of the single market without any of the obligations that go with it.
It is of course what the ' free trade' right wingers want.

And as you say it is not remotely achievable. If the EU were to grant this then membership would be meaningless, the EU would effectively relegate itself to a loose confederation held together with guidelines that you can police yourself, if you can be arsed. The European Union of Please Yourself.

Apart from the Irish border of course.
If the UK gets it's way on that one it will become a smugglers paradise!

Also anyone who has had the balls to get from Somalia/Afghanistan/Wherever to Calais will find getting to Ireland a piece of piss and they can then walk across an emptly border.
