Assisted dying

It was more of a post to think how other pressure groups might leverage this for their own causes. If we consider the courts will once again have the authority to direct someone’s death (rather than direct through withdrawal of “life maintaining” equipment which has been their limit of power for decades now) it’s not a huge leap to once again direct it for particularly heinous crimes.

I’d not be surprised it proponents of it raise it off the back of this vote.
I don’t think this bill gives the courts the authority to direct someone’s death, if anything they will have the ability to challenge the decision made by someone adjudged to have capacity plus two doctors. It actually is a pretty big leap to go from there to capital punishment. Disingenuous and unhelpful to connect the two

The death penalty will never be repealed because one innocent victim dying can never be a good thing in a civilised society and mistakes have been made in the past.

Absolutely they do happen and that would be my main practical concern if I got past the whole morality of it. I’d most likely be on the side of no but there are plenty of times I’ve mourned its absence. Like many I suspect “in the moment”.

Are they still in the right mindset to decide ? My mate said his mum was barely conscious for the last few days of her life (cancer).
I don't think it's a decision as such. It's just like you not fancying anything to eat or getting out of bed when you feel sick, but for the terminally ill like your mates mum and the two family members I've seen die like that its obviously not going to 'get better'. I suppose there is an ethical argument to feed via a drip etc and keep the morphine dose as low as possible to prolong life, but what for realistically?
