Athletics Thread

It's the World relays tomorrow and Sunday. The top 14 qualify automatically for the world championships with 2 places left open for later qualification.

Mens, Women's and mixed 4x100 and 4x400.

It's the first time there's been a mixed 4x100.

It's on the iPlayer, just before midday both days.

Just caught up with the relays.

Does anyone know what happened with the Jamaican runner on the first leg of the Women's 4x400?

Genuinely one of the most bizarre things I've seen in a relay race.

I've seen middle aged Women running faster than that trying to catch a bus.

Was down at the Cheshire Championships today. Proper grass-roots stuff. Standards weren’t that great but good to see the participation.

Having seen the numbers running in the London/Mcr marathons the other week, and the what is it, 1 million expressions of interest to apply for 2026, it’s just a bit disappointing though, to see other branches of what is in essence the same sport so relatively poorly attended.

Eduan looks a real find, strong as they come.
The great Keely Hodgkinson will return to the track in June, 10 months after her last race. She rightly took a long rest after the Olympics but then suffered an injury in February. Best of luck to a super athlete.

One of the reasons I'd change the entry requirements for London moving forward. Might be controversial but I think you shouldn't be able to enter if you haven't run a Marathon before or maybe a decent half somewhere.

Running is as popular as ever now but I think we should be trying to drag every event up in the process.

400m running in this country is still pissing me off, definitely an area UKA should be targeting for golds given there are so many relays nowadays.

Womens's 4x100m team were great.

USA still carrying on their recent tradition of messing up the relays.

Side note but the co-commentator wasn't very good, granted she might be new but 'look at *insert country*' every 2 seconds didn't sound great and she was at least 2 or 3 seconds behind what was happening in the race. Got to get the information out there faster as an athletics commentator.

It's the Doha Diamond League meeting today. 5PM on BBC2.

Quite a few British ladies involved.

Interested to see how Reekie goes in the 1500 as she was really poor over the distance at the European championships last season.

Not if Joe wicks has his way mate, everyone should be jeffing the London marathon, bollocks to all the folk who train all the time to be able to run marathons, just turn up if you fancy it.
Boston has it right, you have to qualify or you don't get in, London is going in the wrong direction

Amazing stuff. Just fifteen years of age!

EDIT: Just read that Sam Ruthe, a 15 year old from NZ has just run a 3:58!

It’s a year old that article. He’s a brilliant athlete though, my son races at a lot of the same events (few years younger) and he’s a real talent.

Just caught up on Rabat this morning, brilliant meet, fast times and great races, brilliant crowd as well.

Women's 3000m, Men's 800m and Men's 3000m Steeplechase the highlights. Even seeing Bol open up with her fastest ever season opener was great.

The men's shot put was a good competition too.

The grand slam gets more comical, the latest meet taking place at a university track that isn't 400m unless measured from lane 4. I've no idea what they were thinking when they came up with the venues that they were going to use.

I'm subbed to a couple of YouTube channels that show full meetings, lots of good content, if anyone is interested in watching more athletics.

Track and field world - that is showing the Continental tour gold meetings, lots of well known athletes turn up at these meetings.

European Athletics - which show's the Continental silver and bronze meetings, plus lots of other content such as field only meetings.

Managed to watch meet's for Poland, France, Germany and Kenya this weekend alone.

Erin Wallace took over 3 seconds off her PB over 1500m winning in France, Davies who won the British 800m indoor title I think, won in Poland, lot's of Brits pop up at these meetings that you otherwise wouldn't get to see.
