Atletico (H) | CL QF 1st Leg | Post Match Thread

“Thought our performance was crap”. “I would have taken 1-0 tonight “. “Defended the counter very well throughput “. Nowt like consistency..,

You thought we were good?

Since when did a bad performance and a good result become mutually exclusive?

We can't have aspects of the game that were good whilst thinking overall we were crap?

I’ll give you an explanation: Kevin De Bruyne is our best player, the best midfielder in Europe and, and this is extremely important, is the ultimate big game player and match winner.
That’s a fair point but the suspicion has persisted since our wonderful spell last season either side of Christmas that we actually play better without him in the team. For me it’s a marginal call as to whether his potential game changing moments outweigh the amount of times he loses possession especially with the way the dippers play. I wouldn’t risk it - we can always bring him on later in the game if we need him.

I appreciate it’s easy to get wrapped up in the emotion of the game, but for those who saw the game on telly (a) should we have had at least one pen? (b) should Athletico have had at least one player sent off and (c) was the ref a complete ****?

A) Maybe. Not clear-cut for me, but have seen them given

B) Probably. Kicking the ball at a player's head when he's on the ground after a foul and the whistle's blown ages ago...If one of our players did that I'd be livid and expect a red

C) Seemed OK first half but much worse after we scored. The lack of cards early on probably emboldened Atletico to commit all those late fouls

I was at the game rather than watching on TV and haven't seen highlights of anything yet but from my view, no, no and yes but nowhere near as big of one as expected.

I don't care much for what the media says but I did take some satisfaction from Pep's piss taking dogs at them. Even more so when he threw that bottle after we scored.

You watch him on Sunday: When we get to these games he shows us his world standing. He did it against United the other week.

He is always going to lose us possession occasionally because he tries things, but those passes/shots create goals when they come off. There is not a cat in hell’s chance he will be left out against Liverpool nor should he be.
