Atmosphere 2024/25

I find it crazy how much our atmosphere is talked about in the media when almost every ground in English is pin drop silent most weeks
Anything negative about City quickly gains traction and gets clicks and retweets etc.

I’ve been as critical as anybody about the clubs pricing policies, and treatment of fans in general, and last night was a joke.

However, the atmosphere was OK for an early Champions League game, it will be no different at Anfield or the Emirates, possibly be different at Villa because it’s their first time in 40 odd years. The difference is atmosphere won’t be discussed at these other clubs because negativity towards Liverpool and Arsenal doesn’t score the hits like it does City.

It’s pathetic and it’s a race to the bottom journalism, much like the reporting of the charges, but unfortunately this is where we are as a society I’m afraid.

Was I in the wrong stadium last night.

Wasn't the noisiest from us, but had a go at times, but fuck me Inter were poor.

Schmeichel proper bitter about City still after his son was let go
I really respected Schmeichel for his performances for us in the 2002/3 season but since then the man has morphed into a total, complete and utter ****.

All the other Clubs don’t have hundreds of fans saying the atmosphere is going to be crap at their home ground
We probably are too hard on ourselves Tim. While it's frustrating when folk don't make an effort, we can't swallow the narrative. Even at Dortmund outside the Yellow Wall you'll see people sat there in silence. Same in Italian grounds, same in Spain. And as for clubs who get a free pass over here - Newcastle, Everton, they're not better than us. Arsenal and the Rags certainly not. Rarely hear a peep out of Liverpool beyond YNWA and their own name. At least our songs are funny

He actually babbles incoherent nonsense when he’s giving his views as well. One of the worst pundits on TV, and that is saying something.

I agree jazzyblue. I though South Stand Level 1 were great last night.

I also agree with your wider point. I have seen Atalanta several times and it’s been great !I was in the Atalanta end at the swamp a couple of years and the atmosphere was dead for the most part. At Leeds I riled the dirty rags by waving an Atalanta Leeds flag.

Probably why Match of The Day fucked him off years ago - he must have been bad.

NEVER EVER use that kit as a primary kit again.

It may be popular for the shirt wearers and Oasis fans but never for our first choice on Champions League games.

An astonishing decision for our brand makers !!

NEVER NEVER NEVER !!
I said to a couple of mates last night that we should always wear our home shirt at home.

I like that shirt BTW, even though it looks like Swizzels sweets on a mad acid trip : )

All things considered it wasn't a bad atmosphere or a bad attendance.
I disagree with the criticism of the Inter fans , stood near them and had good banter with them. Certainly better than the Ipswich and Brentford fans. Best so far this season, I know it very early days yet.
You have to remember some big league games end up being crap , take last seasons home draw with Arsenal, probably the most boring game and dull atmosphere wise game last season.
Hope this Sunday will be a lot better .

I didn't know where to post this really, so in here it will go! I've been thinking about last night's game a lot since the full time whistle and I can't shake this uneasy feeling I have. The whole night just felt really off about it, and I think it's because it's the most egregious example we've seen so far of football feeling like something you'd experience stateside. It was pure undiluted capitalism and it felt a little gross if i'm being honest.

Firstly, thousands of fans voted with their feet at the ridiculous ticket prices, obviously motivated by a hungry money hunt from the club. That left City with a crowd of tourists and newer fans - all there to 'experience' City. I don't blame them at all, they tried their best, but it just isn't the same atmosphere. It isn't their fault that football is this way, but we can't deny the effect it has on the night. Then you add to that the absurd nonsense of wearing an away kit at home. The reasoning behind that? Marketing. I wouldn't mind, but it's not even a kit in honour of City's heritage. It's essentially a marketing tool for a band reforming. We willingly sold out our club colours in a game that was a rerun of arguably the biggest night in the club's history to basically push a kit that is more or less a tribute to a band. Money....the kit is fucking shite too, which doesn't help.

Then when you consider the competition itself has changed dramatically, for money, leaving a confusing mess of a format that will feel inconsequential for a long time. A bunch of games, all random, all disconnected and all just a long slog until the inevitable big team qualifications...well yeah, the whole night just felt like a money grab, with a side serving of football. I understand some won't care about this and accuse me of being dramatic, but I don't think it's ever been that overt. Last night it felt like football and City changed in front of our eyes, or at very least we saw the direct result of this aggressive pursuit of money, and worryingly it only feels like the tip of the iceberg. It's not going to get any better.

There will be more kits at higher prices, more game at higher prices and fans will be pushed out. Can't wait for adverts at half-time in the stadium and even more 'innovations' that take the game closer to the dream NFL model of intense profitability at the expense of the consumer. A Champions League game of that magnitude should not feel like a preseason game, but it did. I really can't shake the feeling that last night things changed a lot, and personally i didn't like it at all. It's a crying shame.
Well said.
I've got dad's ticket on Sunday.
But I can't really be arsed .
The sight of one half and half tourist twat is too much

Click on the link. Click on the X, top right. Click on the sound and video to watch it. Lots of clicking for a few seconds of Inter fans walking and singing in town.

If that was City abroad, we’d all be in the bars, pissed up and singing.

A totally different football culture.
So glad we’ve banned drums.

Even in just that seven second clip, I got bored of it.

The atmosphere last night was pretty poor I thought, it didn't help when the pre match was the Halle Orchestra turning into an Oasis tribute band, with a choir who were so far out of their comfort zone it was painful, making them jump up and down with their brand new scarves on was one of the most cringe things I've seen at a football match.
