Why do the fans have to consulte the club about this?
Aren't there enough clever people at City who can see an opportunity and act upon it?
They're always coming up with ideas to improve the match day experience. That's what we are led to believe. Not only that, the fans have had numerous meetings with the club about improving the atmosphere. We've put numerous ideas forward as well. What thread did Ric start this week? EXACTLY.
Yet when an obvious situation presents itself for one of those matches and for probably the worst away following all season, what does the club do? Open the lower section of the away end to 200 City fans. Ah?
Come on WNRH stop trying to make excuses for the people running the club. There are alot of very clever people at City. They are very pro-active in so many areas. There are so many departments, and it is so tiered, you wouldn't believe it.
Yet when it comes to actually improving and implementing changes to improve that atmosphere, they haven't done a thing so far. Yet the whole of the North Stand can be turned into a Family Stand and thousands of supporters can be relocated to other areas of the stadium.
Put it this way.
The only reason why the Kippax corner and the SS is standing, is because we made a stance. The Police, Council and club gave up in the end. What was the point in throwing out fan after fan each week. I'll tell you something though. We'd still be sat down if certain people had their way.
The fans are trying their hardest to work with the club on this issue.(season after season) Yet the club has hardly implemented any of the talked about suggestions yet.
If you read my contribution to this thread you will see i have been as critical of the club with regards to this as you are but something today clicked and changed my view on things. I was thinking with my heart before, but today i started to think with my head and now fully understand why the club aren't as bothered and enthusiastic about this as we appear to be.
You sum it up though mate in the second to last paragraph. You say we made a stance, well why aren't we making a stance at the games for this one end by singing non stop, by actually singing we want one end, a couple verses of "Oh Garry Cook, Oh Garry cooooooooook, give us our end, oh Garry Cook" instead we ridicule an away fan for being fat or wearing pink.
If people want this to happen then they are going to have to really show it instead of being hidden away on a thread on the internet. If people really feel strong about this then things can be done, banners, songs, really getting it out there that we want it but deep down and this has formed from today, i don't think really deep down too many people want it.
WNRH.
Please stop it mate.
Everbody who matters at City know the fans want a single singing end for the home fans. They also know the fans are trying to improve the atmosphere as individuals or groups.(BA) Apart from continual meetings, the club monitors BM on a daily basis as well. And as far as I/we have been made aware, the club also want the above. There is no need to sing about it.
I've been invited to meetings in the past where moving the away fans and improving the atmosphere has been discussed. As I have posted, the away fans can't be moved ATM from where they are due to issues with entrance/exits, away coaches, facilities, disable access, etc, etc.(Police, Council, etc) I was also given a presentation as to why it can't be done. So I have put that idea to bed until the stadium is expanded.(if it is?)
However, that doesn't mean the club can't improve the atmosphere in other ways. Numerous ideas have been put forward and have been discussed with the club. Yet none have been implemented so far.
As I have already posted, today was a perfect opportunity to let the Kippax fans and the SS fans come toegther in the SS lower tier. All the club had to do was advertise this in advance(away clubs have to apply for their ticket allocation weeks in advance. It's not rocket science that Fulham would have brought about 200 fans, if that) via the OS site and all the other media oulet's at it's disposal. The club has a very extensive and well run media department as we know.
Yet what do the club do? Sell 200 tickets to home fans in one block of the away end and close the other two away blocks. Why didn't they just move the barriers on the lower concorse, let the fans move to a seat of their choice in the away blocks, and give them an opportunity to try a combined SS lower for one match. No harm done. It would have either worked or failed.
People will point to Wigan last year and say it didn't work then. I stand corrected, but those away seats were sold to fans who didn't want to sing. (that is there choice and I'm not having a pop at them) They weren't fans from the singing sections.
Until the people who run the club at least try a Kippax/SS lower singing end, be it against Fulham, Wigan or another club who only need the SS away upper tier, we will never know.
