Atmosphere tonight

I travel from Warrington and leave 1.5 hours before ko. I normally get to my fave parking spot about 45 mins before ko. Last night the traffic around the M602 and the Mancunian Way was dreadful. I parked up at 7.35 last night and had to leg it to the stadium sharpish. Many people must have arrived like me just in time for ko. That certainly didn't help with the atmosphere. I only saw a small number of season ticket holders around me last night. Proof that fans simply can't afford a ST and all the Cup Schemes as well. The newbies, who are very welcome, just don't sing like the regulars do. The positioning of the away fans has never helped with the atmosphere either.

I wouldn't agree with that. The atmosphere is shit at league games which are full of regulars. Only away games its good or derby games.

It may sound like an excuse but its the truth, most local fans who make the noise who appreciate these nights aren't there because they've been priced out. I've been there since the dark days with Royle I always sing and get behind the team in 111,but I've unfortunately been priced out of European games. Only just clinging on to my season ticket, probably won't be able to hold on to it much longer if it increases again. Then again some day tripper with an ipad will take it and probably buy all the shit from the club shop, so happy days eh city? I guarantee if tickets were 20£ last night it would have been full and have been a great atmosphere

Well, tickets for the CSKA game are £25 so that should test your theory out.

Can't wait for the CSKA home crowd......
Im going under 30k...
Eventually the club will realise that pricing IS the main issue.
If the games are priced correctly then it becomes more available for the less affluent fans. The people who were their during the dark days.
I feel so sorry for fans who want to go but can't afford to go now.

I'm shocked mostly by your post in which you say you are shocked.

In no way whatsoever am I shocked at the lack of atmosphere.

For the past few seasons the Champs League games have attracted random daytrippers and this is the reason I no longer go to them.

Give me Sheffield Wednesday in a league cup game over that shit, with constant petulant diving and korean kim taking pics on her tablet.
It wasn`t the plastics, it was the empty seats that were the problem.

A lot of it boils down to the fact the majority of City fans don't give a shite about European competition. You can't drink, it's completely ruined generally by sub-standard referees who often seem against us, and it's just generally rather dull. If City were in the FA Cup final, could win the league or were in the league cup final - the only one I would sacrifice losing to win the CL is the league cup. I would take the FA Cup and/or the league anyday over the CL.

pricing is not an issue for the moscow game with starting at £25 which is more than reasonable

Well its not quite as appealing a game against CSKA , especially after that performance last night, so not quite the same!

You shot yourself down pretty quickly there! ;-)

Whilst you have the away fans located directly behind the goal of the south stand of the stadium it will never have an 'atmosphere'. Particularly when at the opposite end of the ground is the Family stand. This allows the away fans to be heard in a big way and hence dominate the mood of the crowd.
I think we stuck the Dortmund away fans up in the 3rd tier at a game not so long ago and we should do this with all away fans.
To allocate away fans such a prime piece of terrace territory is madness on all fronts (view of the game, singing, stewarding etc) and does the home
fans no favours at all. The south stand should be 100% City fans and effectively be made the 'singing stand'. If that part of the stadium was packed full of Blues the singing and the atmosphere would improve dramatically.
It 'ain't rocket science. The away fans are given the prime location at our home games.
Absolute stupidity.
Personally I think a better idea would be to make North stand L1 the "City End" - that way it doesn't get impacted by bigger away allocations for Cups. The away fans contribute to the atmosphere so I'd leave them where they are rather than sticking them in the gods, look how shit the atmosphere is when hardly any away fans turn up - fulham last season for example.
Yeh but the thing is, we are the only team in the league not to have a full 'singing section'. We've got 2 blocks either side of the away fans which just defeats the object because we just get drowned out cause pretty much all away fans are the noisey ones.

Plus i cant see any of the singing section(s) moving to the north stand.
