However, one of the prime draws of top end football is the atmosphere of a 'big match'. Fundamentally, we're at City to support our team, and if we're lucky, witnessing some great football, and finally seeing some of the world's greatest players from both teams.... but the atmosphere adds so much to the experience.
Now, if someone really doesn't like to sing or chant, that's their business. Nobody should be expecting or forcing them to, but equally, I believe it's important to acknowledge that the atmosphere is created (largely) by those that make an effort to sing, bring banners, partake in the Posnan etc. IF we want a better atmosphere, we have to look to ourselves and contribute on a personal level.
I cannot blame the boring bloke sat next to me if I'm not prepared to do a bit of singing myself. I cannot criticise people strolling in from the concourse 5 minutes late if I'm doing similar myself. If we want this 'mighty atmosphere' we each have to start getting in our seats a good 10 mins before kick-off (possibly sooner). We need to start signing more. And it would do no harm if the club helped things along with a tiny bit of co-ordination that made sure Bluemoon got an effective airing, and some sense of 'drama' with dimmed lights, or SOMETHING. We don't need lots of plastic flags or polythene seat signs, just a few 'cues' to get in our seats and sing our hearts out.
Atmosphere ultimately isn't someone else's job to create. It's ours. It's in our hands.
I'm going to make a concerted effort to do a bit more singing. If we all do that, the problem will be solved.
Thanks for volunteering. You start and we'll follow. Tell us where you sit so we can watch out for you (bet he's sat right next to me and I'm the boring bastard).
Block 123 row L, megaphone and song sheet in hand.
If you tweet the words, I'll have a look on my tablet during the game.
