Atmosphere tonight

Everybody has a right to offer their support in the manner they chose (barring violence / racism etc).

However, one of the prime draws of top end football is the atmosphere of a 'big match'. Fundamentally, we're at City to support our team, and if we're lucky, witnessing some great football, and finally seeing some of the world's greatest players from both teams.... but the atmosphere adds so much to the experience.

Now, if someone really doesn't like to sing or chant, that's their business. Nobody should be expecting or forcing them to, but equally, I believe it's important to acknowledge that the atmosphere is created (largely) by those that make an effort to sing, bring banners, partake in the Posnan etc. IF we want a better atmosphere, we have to look to ourselves and contribute on a personal level.

I cannot blame the boring bloke sat next to me if I'm not prepared to do a bit of singing myself. I cannot criticise people strolling in from the concourse 5 minutes late if I'm doing similar myself. If we want this 'mighty atmosphere' we each have to start getting in our seats a good 10 mins before kick-off (possibly sooner). We need to start signing more. And it would do no harm if the club helped things along with a tiny bit of co-ordination that made sure Bluemoon got an effective airing, and some sense of 'drama' with dimmed lights, or SOMETHING. We don't need lots of plastic flags or polythene seat signs, just a few 'cues' to get in our seats and sing our hearts out.

Atmosphere ultimately isn't someone else's job to create. It's ours. It's in our hands.
I'm going to make a concerted effort to do a bit more singing. If we all do that, the problem will be solved.

Thanks for volunteering. You start and we'll follow. Tell us where you sit so we can watch out for you (bet he's sat right next to me and I'm the boring bastard).

Block 123 row L, megaphone and song sheet in hand.

If you tweet the words, I'll have a look on my tablet during the game.

The day trippers and away fans make a massive difference. Massive.

Right behind me, there was block of 8 Roma fans, all side by side. Next but one to me, two tourists. In front of me were a couple of the usual ST faces, which was great to see, but then a row infront of them... 4 tourists with cameras. It's massively breaking up the atmosphere. I can't speak for all blocks, and perhaps the north stand doesn't have this issue, but CB stand's packed with tourists.

So... it seems the usual faces (ST holders?) aren't buying CL tickets... and either a) no other City fans want the tickets either or b) the tickets are immediately snapped up for the foreign market.
I can't help but feel b) is happening a lot... and that touts are buying the tickets as quickly as possible and flogging them on... meaning the club think they tickets are sold, but aren't realising where they are actually ending up (or they do know and don't care).

It's not the tourists or away fans at fault, I don't think anybody's blaming them per se, it's just that having so many of them DOES hinder things, and we already have an atmosphere problem!

The away fans need to be in ONE section, and we want our hardcore singers all together too. And if we still struggle to sell out, at LEAST try and make it look decent for the cameras and close out the upper tiers, rather than have huge arrays of missing seats opposite the cameras and behind the north stand goals. That really is not helping ourselves.

Basically anyone who cares about the atmosphere at City NEED to relocate to the free blocks in the south stand next season. Otherwise we'll miss the only opportunity we have to improve the atmosphere.

I sit in CBL3 and try to join in songs and get them spreading to other parts of the ground, but apart from 3 or 4 other people around me its a loosing battle. But I'm sure there are about 20 people like this in every other block in the stadium... We need to all get in the same place. If the south stand was louder, the rest of the stadium would join in more. Anyone who went to Munich this year would have seen that with their ultras section getting the rest of the stadium going - and it's nothing to do with fan culture!

Another thing I HATE about our atmosphere is when you get the 'lets look dead tough and scary for the away fans' people who massively oppose any attempt to improve the atmosphere. People say drums are embarrassing, but so is not singing at all. We've done flags and you just get idiots who stand behind the goal near the bottom of the stand telling you to move the flags because you can't see the players walking onto the pitch... Well if you're bothered about seeing that, move to somewhere where you get a good view of the pitch instead!! (It's obviously different all the way through the game if you have someone doing it).

Perhaps like the players age is catching up with the fans. Maybe a multi vitamin or an energy drink might do the help.

Right, everyone down to the Docs to find out what can be done to put some pep into our lives. Depression has set in and we need to buck up.

Totally agree there. I personally think a drummer is a good idea to boost the flat atmosphere, ive always said that...pity 98% of blues stubbornly against the idea..

What harm can it do, someone banging away on a drum for the whole 90 mins? Its better than just silence or listening to moaning from ungreatful fans!

None whatsoever so long as it is 50 yards away from me!
