Atmosphere yesterday

had a feeling there would be an atmosphere discussion - bloody mark ogden more or less saying liverpool will win league as better than ours

looking at our remaining home games there's none that stand out as guaranteed electric, no opponents we'll be automatically hostile towards - hopefully as season ends it'll all come together

early sat kick-offs don't help

The atmosphere is almost always flat. Sometimes it's absolutely shit. It's rarely good but it can be good so it is within us somewhere even though the style of our stadium is fucking garbage and the set-up we've created in the stadium is even worse for creating an atmosphere. The atmosphere is almost never great. You can count on one hand how many special atmospheres we've had at this stadium.

The sad thing is, the way the stadium is being developed nothing is going to change in terms of the style of stadium it will be and the lack of a proper stand for vocal fans, and the set-up of it seems like it will continue to be completely fucking wrong.

We will never have a good atmosphere if we have two little efforts that are almost a joke in their size set aside for vocal fans like we have. I'm not sure they even total 3000 put together. I put a list up a little while ago where over fifty clubs have larger vocal sections than we do and we have the fifth largest stadium and the fourth largest average attendance in the whole country; yet we're not in the top fifty for size of vocal stands. It's pitiful what's set aside for vocal fans at our stadium, pitiful!

But let's not just blame the stadium here. The lack of effort from many many of our fans to create an atmosphere is blatantly apparent. I don't care anymore if I offend people with this; a huge percentage of our support is shit (in atmosphere terms, as I know people will come out with stuff like "I've been here or there" "I've spent xxx amount following City" "I have xxx amount of Loyalty Points").

At the moment I think nerves are playing a part in it all, first half we were totally outplayed and this transmits to the crowd, even after the first Nasri was trying to encourage the fans. I think if it's end to end and the away support is good Arsenal Liverpool are great examples it sets the tone for the fans, at the moment we go from very nervous to unassailable lead so no one can be bothered either way.

Early kick offs are shit cos no one has had the chance to get pissed that much.

3pm and half 5 Saturdays are where you'll find your better atmospheres as theres more drinking time

Early kick offs, Sunday games, midweek games there's less drinking so therefore less atmosphere.

Atmosphere at Anfield last Sunday was utter dog shit btw

The club are in the fortunate position of being able to so something significant about it. I hope they considered atmosphere when designing the new ends (I'm sure they did - look at the way the roof slopes downwards to keep the noise in). Personally I'm not sure spreading the away fans over 3 levels will be the best for improving atmosphere, but maybe I'm wrong. The atmosphere at the minute is dreadful (has been for years), and this is a title run in for fucks sake. Imagine how dead it would be if we went back to being a midtable nothing club.

At least you've got good banter!

I'm not talking shit though on this, even if I do on other things, the size of our vocal sections is criminal!

Hmmm........

cant be arsed reading the rest of the thread so not sure its been mentioned, but the 1894 group tweeted before that they have asked for the extra south stand blocks on level one to be given to them when the expansion is complete. If that happens then it will surely be an improvement.
