Atmosphere

Getting pissed , screaming and shouting is your way of enjoying a football match (and mine too), however there are 35,000 people at least who enjoy watching football in a different way , unfortuanlty there are more of them than us , building a new stand isn't going to change that, and the club don't want to , they would take 100,000 people who come to the stadium as a novelty and spend another £200 in the club shop over 100,000 pissed up mancs who buy a season ticket then spend the remainder of their money on a pint over the rd any day , they are the cash cow not us.
Getting pissed , screaming and shouting is your way of enjoying a football match - It may have been many years ago but possibly not these days...

That's why we need a stand for like minded people, they have it right on the continent.
The so called ultras stand where people sing jump wave huge flags let of smoke grenades etc .if you don't like it you have 3 other stands to chose from ,

There is no doubt ‘one end’ can work but if its struggling in 115 (mix of all types of fans diluting the songs) how will it work in one big end behind the goal? and do we actually have enough fans to participate to make it worthwhile?

The next question will fans actually leave their seats and form one end rather than be sited adjacent to the away fans?

When we were at the old Maine Rd the banks of singers (when all seater) were located in Kippax AA/BB lower next to the away fans and in the North stand adjacent to the away fans with the two blocks of singers split by the away fans. Exactly the same scenario as we have now.

Not digging you guys out because you do great work but just sceptical if moving to the North Stand in reality will ever work as although we moan about the two blocks of singers being split its what people seem to want.

For me the best chance to get together was SSL3, a whole new stand with nobody being inconvenienced or moved to accommodate others.

Fair comments, all true what you say, I think at times there are to many options.

Myself I don't need away fans to have a go at, I want to sing about city. But true it does rev us up to be next to the away fans and help others sing.

A lot of what balls'd up the move to 115 four years ago was SS3 coming in the same summer, so cheaper tickets came available. Cant blame fans at all for opting for a better price and going up there. But we went from 600 singers to 350 singers over night in 115. Then the available season tickets in 114 / 115 went on open sale so non singers came in, or fans that sing just from time to time. ( the block holds 750 by the way )

A big part of 1894 plans are to add colour / displays, I know flags don't sing but its a big part these days. If we had all gone to tier three then we would have lost the flags and banners because security wont let us take them up there plus they wouldn't be seen as good in tier three as it is to far away. The camera crew at the club seem to have an unbelievable skill in not showing a huge display in SS lower, they would never have seen us in tier three. Displays are more for fans & players anyhow.

Each season a few non singers have left 114 / 115 and a few more singers come in, that's why each season is getting better.

Main reason to move across to the north stand redevelopment which seems to be such an upheaval after getting us all in the SS is because of safestanding. This hopefully will bring kippax / SS3 and 114/115 in to the same end as they all want to stand. Almost sure safestand wont come in to SS, it will be the redevelopment that gets it. A point worth bringing up is that once we have safestand in north stand the security & stewards will be all over the south stand like a rash making fans sit down. Nobody will be able to stand up unless in safestand. It will be said "if you want to stand at a game go in north stand".

Another problem with SS is the middle section where there are corporate blocks, its a pain in the arse. Fans come in extra late and leave extra early for their free drinks in those seats, it looks horrendous with displays, they rarely help, they don't hold up mosaics.

The shape of the three tier SS isn't the best for fans singing together or a great help with displays. The north if it is to be single tier or two tier will be far better.

Away fans will always be in the area that they currently are. Police and security want away fans in and out easily, so where they are now is the easiest place, This is controlled by police, the club can not over rule, it will always be that way. The police wouldn't even let us move away fans to the opposite corner of south stand so that kippax and 115 would be together as they wanted away fans to remain in that corner.

It will be hard convincing fans to all move, but even as we are we are diluted with non singers. Moving to north stand where we can start a fresh ticks a few more boxes plus the fact that fans in other areas of the stadium will be clamped down on even more if they try to stand at the seats during games.

Great post that mate and I really wish you guys all the best with it.

You are quite correct the pull of safe standing and hopefully cheaper tickets will hopefully be a big enough incentive to get people to move to the North Stand end and to change their habits. Without those two factors I think you will be fighting a losing battle.

Be interesting to see what the future holds for the North Stand. In some ways the template has already been drawn with the South Stand extension and so I think the likelihood is 3 tiers as anything else would reduce capacity in the short term and the club has a working model of expanding without reducing the capacity.

Good luck.

Obviously a redevelopment with cheap tickets, standing etc is preferred, but however the club decide to alter the north stand the atmosphere should improve. If they did a carbon copy of the south stand we'd get another 6k fans in and a roof that's angled to keep noise in etc.

The club will be quite confident they can avoid reducing capacity for the majority of the season. Most of the work would start from the back forward, with most of the awkward work done during the summer.

cheers mate, thanks.

You are right in what you say.

The thing is to even though we say to move this way or that way and put away fans somewhere else, a lot of the positioning is governed by police / security and a lot of factors.

It will be very interesting to see the outcome of north stand, I think it will be two tier with the bottom tier being two thirds of it, all of the lower tier to be safestand. But having said that to create this would mean demolish the north stand completely so reducing capacity for 2 years while it is built, told it cant be done in a season to completely flatten and build a new. Who knows, one thing that it will be and that's a fantastic looking stand and one hell of a stadium, best in the country by far.

Looks like they are trying a dedicated young 'uns area for Rotherham game:
