Attendances

The attendance last night was just under 42,000. 12,000 below our PL average.

Into that 42,000 you have to factor in 3000 official away fans, and at least, being generous, you have to factor in another 500-1000 away fans spread throughout the stadium.

Most of the time the away end is only half full or less with away fans for PL matches, and those other seats are normally bought by other city fans. Let's say 1000.

So, if my maths are correct.

12,000 below our PL average.
500-1000 German fans in our end.
1000 City fans who normally by away seats for a PL match, if the away team don't sell there away allocation.

Rightly or wrongly, I'm sure I will be corrected, there were between 14,000 to 14,500 PL match going City fans missing last night.

Regardless of the reasons, and my post is not about that, don't you think that is pretty alarming, given the ticket prices, which were fair, the importance of the match, as it turned out, etc.

I appreciate there will always be X amount of City fans who don't want to watch a CL match for whatever reason, but 14,000-14,500 missing City fans is.......?

The number of PL regulars not present must be a lot higher than that. There were quite a number of people with young children who I have never seen before as well as the so called tourists and this is the same for all cup games. Very few regulars turn up in my section. I am sure some miss out in order to save costs but when I have asked people they have usually said that they didn't go to night games because they were too busy and in some cases I know that the money is not an issue. Personally, I now just do the PL and Champions League and I just think that for me that is enough games to go to.

The 'singing' section has been piss poor IMO. Even in the games where we've played well they only sing right after a goal for a couple of mins. They all stand arms folded like they're men in black.

Fair points but last season our average at was about 46000 so many of those missing are probably new s/c holders who for various reasons are picking and choosing mid week games a bit more, especially with us getting league cup home draws as well.
I would expect bigger crowds for the next rounds with the league cup done.

I am amazed that 40000 people want to go to a match in a work night. The missing 15000 people are people who prefer to watch it in TV. It is that simple. I have been to 600 plus city games and years ago would go away in Simod cup games etc! I now have a life. I go to maybe 25 games a season and that is plenty with juggling work and a family. The traffic on midweek games is horrendous. That is a huge reason I don't go to many midweeks. It's not a problem. If we got 10000 I would say the same.

Hopefully the few thousand less than expected last night means Saturday vs the Swans will be pretty full!

The singing section have helped the atmosphere a bit with one hand but their oppostion to a drum hinders potential progress on the other!

Swansea will be our lowest of the season.

The traffic is a nightmare. Crowds over 40k - like last night - are always good IMHO. Glad I got the benefit of one of the best games at the Etihad for an affirdae price but realise finances are stretch for many Blues - plus family and work commitments!
