I thought he was a central defender ?

Wouldn't it be better to sign a genuine left back or is that too logical ?
So did I. Then I read a couple of reports saying he could have been used as a left back.
I wasn't being serious anyway, not seen anywhere near enough of him to pretend to know how good he is, CB or otherwise.

A genuine left back would be nice.

No read my post. If they wanted to really nail him down they would have put the buyout around 100 (especially if he really wanted to stay). You don't sign a new contract and just add 10 million to the clause. It doesn't make sense.

I'm sure I heard that the release clause in Spain is only applicable if the player himself pays the fee himself. Also, if the buying club were to give the player the money to pay the fee, then that money is also taxable so the fee would be a lot higher than the release clause.

IMO, Bilbao are holding out for a specific figure which is higher than the old release clause. Out of respect Laporte will not activate his buyout clause and City are playing hardball and trying to lower the fee.

Bilbao getting Laporte to sign a new deal has just strengthened their hand in relation to selling Laporte by increasing the buy out clause, but I wouldn't be surprised if the original valuation has not changed and this is just a tactic to get us to pay up or leave it.

If we pay the fee then everyone is happy. If not then Bilbao keep their man and Laporte gets a pay rise.

to be fair I'm not fussed on this deal either way....already bought a lad with an injury don't need 2 that possibly can't play till September....plus the lad may of failed a medical and city may have pulled the plug on it due to its results giving the lad no choice as to sign a new deal....

City were never going to come out and say they're gutted that the deal has fallen through, but the stuff they've briefed the press is a bit disingenuous to say the least. They'd have been better off not commenting at all.

You heard anything new on Sane mate?

Has his recent injury got anything to do with this Ric?
Maybe we've seen sense at last, and just wern't prepared to pay a kings ransom for someone with a dodgy knee
