Ballon d'Or 2023 | Haaland finishes 2nd

Yes. Of course he does.

However, he is a player at MCFC

I honestly can't see a City player winning the Ballon d' Or in this climate of hostility and racism against the club.

No matter what we go on to achieve in the future, we'll never be accepted into the institution.
You are correct. When Haaland scores 61 goals for club and country (City 52, Norway 9), wins the treble, and is the highest scorer in the Champions League there can be no arguments that he has been the best in the previous season. If Messi does get it it will be a disgrace. Just winning the World Cup can never be enough for any player judged over a whole season.

and just making the WC as an excuse to give it to him when Julian, also scored more open play goals than the 'goat' he also won the league and cup (I think) before joining City and then a treble and a world cup, without even much of a break.

Should be making the top 3 minimum but be lucky to get a footnote.

Not sure why anybody would be that surprised - it’s been a popularity contest for at least 15 years and was decided between Messi and Ronaldo on who won La Liga. Several years Ronaldo won despite scoring and assisting less than Messi because Real won the league.

This time Messi captained Argentina to the WC, was Golden Ball and 2nd higher scorer with 7, it was nailed on he would be voted Balon d’Or especially with some sentimentality thrown in.

As for Haaland it’s pretty clear that some downplay how many goals he scored because of the quality he plus with - you only have to listen to Linekar and Shearer every week salivating that they’d score 50+ in this team.

I don't think Messi deserves the prize, but I think he deserves it more than Haaland. Argentina without Messi would have never won the WC. He was both their best and most important player. Haaland cannot say he is the best nor the most important player for City.

If we are talking about the best players in the world without thinking about titles, it would be Rodri, Mbappe, KDB/Salah for me (probably in that order, although Mbappe could be first).

If we are talking about importance for the clubs that won big titles then it would be Rodri, Messi, KDB.

And if we are talking about consistency I would go with Rodri, Mbappe, Haaland/Salah.

All together the top 3 should be Rodri first for sure, and then KDB Mbappe/Messi.

You simply should not win Ballon D'Or if you are not even close to being the most important player of your own team. I would expect non City fans to give Haaland a top 3 spot because they don't watch us as often, so they don't know our best and most important players.

Been a joke for a while now. Lewandoski and Benzema may have won it a few times, same with Greizmann and De Bruyne. Even Kane not winning a medal has done more than Messi lol

Its like the Eurovision song contest, you could have a voice like Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley etc but Olly Murs is gonna win it because a load of dopey dipshits do the voting

Haaland and Alvarez had a better year then Messi! A sentimental vote for him!
Low key Alvarez is so underrated! If Haaland doesn't win this year he never will because it proves that the award is now just about the story...

Martinez was their MVP.
