Balotelli walks off pitch after racist abuse

Here is the better video from the stands where racist sounds are heard

Fucking hell that is vile. So loud and it seems like every person (women included) are doing it. Fuming at the initial reaction of the other players and the ref. White people have to start standing up against this or they're complicit. In 2019 silence isn't acceptable.

It would be nice if UEFA ban the entire Italian league from participating in the Champions League for a couple of years. But since, its UEFA who might be racists themselves, I don't have much hope other than a fine.

It's the second time this season it's happened with Hellas, it's an absolute disgrace. I believe last season the curva sud, (the section this came from) was closed for a match or two as well.

I've been there a few times, it hasn't happened during those occasions, thankfully for me the guys that I meet up with are as angry about this as any right-minded person would be.

I've told them I won't be going back any time soon while this is going on.

Italy have a huge social problem over racism, immigration etc. and as with the Inter Milan fans told their own black players the other week, they don't see singling out an opposition player over the colour of his skin as anything other than 'banter', and trying to unsettle them, it's wrong, plain and simple.

I messaged a mate about it at the time as I was watching the game, and told him I hoped Mario smashed in a 30 yard screamer, it's just a shame his 20 yard goal didn't cost Hellas any league points.

That would put an end to it.....
Introduce a rule that if racist chanting is there, then that whole stand has to leave or the game wont restart and the end is closed for the next game.
Will piss off a lot of non racist fans but next time a chant goes up the majority will tell them to fuck off.
That's a start.I like it.

Then one of the non racist fans clearly not sharing being to enthused at being chucked out on account of the racist idiot......clumps said idiot thus provoking an outbreak of handbags finds himself being woken up by plod coming through his door at 6am and being prosecuted for being a hooligan and getting a football banning order...thats what would happen here at any rate.

Each individual national league or football association has to take the issue seriously as do UEFA.

Easy to say dont admit clubs with a racism issue to European competition but the problem there would be if you apply the standards expected in England as what is expected in order to compete in these competitions you would be left with a fairly small number of clubs actually being admitted....there would be non from Eastern Europe or Italy, Germany might struggle, as would the jocks, Spain would be out and as for Portugal whom on account of Bernado klu klux silva have been outed as a racist nation who manufacture and market racially offensive biscuits.....

It is not an easy problem to tackle but the indifference shown by UEFA and FIFA is appalling and more could be done.

Sadly, it has nothing to do wiht UEFA.
It is italian authorities that are at fault here. And more importantly, it isn't even a football problem but an issue deeply rooted in their society. Racists, facists, ultra right wings people won't stop being what they are in a football stadium.

The ones who are clearly identified by video/security should be forbidden from going to football games for life. It should help.

Croatian manager of Verona Ivan Juric claimed after the match that he didn't hear racist insults. Balakov in disguise.

Yep, I've heard too that their fans are regular racists, maybe worst in Italy.

Leader of Verona's ultras claims abuse of Mario Balotelli was NOT racist because they 'applauded a n***o in our team' in an outrageous interview... before adding that the Brescia striker 'can never be entirely Italian'

In conversation with Radio Cafe, Castellini dismissed claims of racism by saying: 'We have a n***o in our team and he scored yesterday and all of Verona applauded.'

His stinging criticism of Balotelli, which continued with a Facebook post on Monday, added that 'Balotelli is Italian because he has Italian citizenship but he will never be able to be totally Italian.'

The comments from Castellini come after Hellas Verona president Maurizio Setti insisted the club's supporters are 'ironic but not racist' as he vehemently dismissed talk of racial abuse.

'The Verona fans are special and they have a sympathetic way of joking with people,' Setti told reporters.

'But racism doesn't exist. And if it exists we would be the first to denounce it. If two out of 20k people say something differently then there's no need to take it to the extreme. We will catch them and remove them from football.

'This is the solution. We shouldn't remember the Verona of 30 years ago, today we are a club that has sport in its DNA.

'We have a lot of players of colour so we denounce racism. Let me repeat: today nothing happened on the pitch.

'The Verona fans are ironic but not racist. I know Balotelli, he is a sensible person. Maybe today it's something else because we were playing and you didn't hear a thing. Obviously a gesture by a player takes on a different relevance.'
