Band names: Origins and Meanings

The band was originally founded by Peter Green who, for some reason, didn't want his own name in the name of the band and called it Fleetwood Mac after Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. That didn't stop the band being universally referred to as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac until Green left.
Record label put “ Peter Greens F. M.“
on the “dustbin” album. He was furious.

Martha and The Muffins.
Apparently, she thought the band were a bunch of cnuts.

No. Actually…..
They chose the name "Martha and the Muffins" to distance themselves from the aggressive names adopted by many punk bands of the era. According to Mark Gane: "We decided to use it as a temporary name until we could all agree on something better." The name ended up sticking for the next seven years.
Should have been called “Martha and the Barms.”

Urban myth alert!
In fact, 10cc's original producer, notorious kiddy-fiddler, Jonathan King, claimed to have chosen the name after having a dream in which he was standing in front of the Hammersmith Odeon in London where the header read '10cc The Best Band in the World'.

Apparently New Order's name comes from the title of a Guardian article - The People's New Order of Kampuchea.

Joy Division was from the novel - House of Dolls.
I heard Joy Division was the prostitutes brought up to the line to relieve the Wehrmacht to help them unwind in WWII.
