Barry is still good enough

He was magnificent last night, and tends to do better in the big games.

However, he is too slow and not the top level for European.

Alonso and Khadeira are not the fastest players in Europe.

Pace is not required for every position.
It's less the amount of pace Barry has and more that he doesn't handle being pressed as well as he could, which is not great against the better European teams.

Spot on - his short game is limited when under pressure, he rushes the pass!

Which was highlighted with that shocking game he had against Southampton

I'm still trying to purge that entire match from my mind.

MoM last night and everyone around us agreed, he bossed the midfield allowing Milner, Yaya and Nasri to play their games.

That's what everyone was saying around me last night.

Brilliant performance from Barry, although you wouldn't think so reading the ratings in the papers today.

Class act. About the fifth or sixth derby in a row that we've completely controlled things in midfield. If Carrick had been as good as him last night, we'd have never heard the end of it.

Crazy to think that barring Garcia for Kompany that team last night was much the same?..........i'm still scratching my head!

I've noticed he is generally fine with one game a week. When he plays two in a short space of time it definitely affects his mobility (which is actually pretty good considering his size/pace)

I have never lost faith in him. He keeps the team ticking over. Very very underrated.

Against certain players, certain styles of play and certain teams he's out of his depth. He's not had a good Champions League game for us yet, in fact he's been poor, and against the better teams than us and players than him, he can't cope.

He's also not played well, even against low Prem teams, for long spells this season. That, however, seems to be poor form as he has stepped up in the last two weeks back to what we expect of him in the Prem. He is a very good player, an underrated player, at Prem level.

I think we need a different type of player in there against the likes of München Dortmund and Madrid (even Napoli) where he was poor in all games against these teams.

He is also obviously not of the physical make-up of many other players at the highest level, as when he plays tow games in a week (Weds-Sat) he's generally poor in the second game.

I want to keep Barry, he can still play 25 games a season for us and be Man of the Match in many of them. But I think we need the next leek of player up if we want to progress at the highest level.

Gareth Barry was tremendous last night.
Just check out who it is who is first one back covering when any of our full backs push on.
Just check out who links a lot of our play on the edge of their box.
And more importantly just check out who is first one there in camelgobs face when he refused to kick the ball out.[He was`nt lacking pace then]
