Barry Vs Milner

Why compare them? They have different jobs to do on the pitch. Milner is more versatile but Barry plays his defensive role very well. A fully fit Rodwell will be the eventual replacement for Barry.

End of thread.

Anyone who thinks Milner is a better footballer than Barry should watch that first half against Swansea on a continuous loop for a week.

Intelligence and composure vs physicality and bluster, it's a no contest.
Instead of a comparison of 45 minutes of football; i'll go off the whole season where Milner has been in a different league to Barry. Barry's played well about three times. Milner has played well nearly every week.

Now, I like Barry. I thought he - along with Lescott - were our most consistently good players in our Prem winning season. But this season he's just been well below that level. He went four months without playing well once.

YCMIU.... Know it's all about opinions but that's so far off the mark about Barry it must be a level

-- Sun May 05, 2013 7:22 am --

Barry is the best player at the club at his job. Yaya is good at his, Silva too.Joe is a brilliant keeper and so on, but they all misfire now and again. Barry just goes about his job and is incredibly consistent.
I watched quite a bit of him at villa and was pleased he signed. I had absolutely no idea he was going to be this good.he does things you simply do not see watching on TV.

First name on the sheet for me.

This, very much this and an automatic pick for Mancini as well.

Brave man. Not many willing to come on here and expose a serious lack of knowledge about football. Well done, sir.

We bought Milner on the back of a fantastic breakthrough season as a goalscoring, box to box midfielder, but then for the next 3 years our tactical genius seldom utilises him in this position, instead shunting him out wide to a position he used to be underwhelming in; by this logic, in the unfortunate event Mancini is still our manager next season, if we sign Gareth Bale in the summer he will be played at leftback.

Milner and Barry together would be the ideal midfield combination for us in this league, an upgrade United's successful Carrick-Cleverley combo, but instead we prefer the homeless man's Xabi Alonso, and the lazy, 5 good games a season Yaya Toure (who in my opinion should never be considered in any other position than second striker, where his lack of effort won't leave us overrun like it generally does now)

I will be glad when barry is benched/replaced next season. He is only looks good when teams are pinned back and there is nobody to pressure him. Numerous times esp in europe he has fallen to pieces under pressure. Milner is always the square peg that mancini loves to jam in round holes.
But they are both English and therfore the best in the world at 'what they do'

Hmmmm, Yaya or Milner? Yaya or Milner?

If only Barry would take the fridge off his back
If only Milner would take the fridge out of his skull and put a brain in there

what does that mean ???

I think he means one (Gareth Barry) is very slow - has fridge on his back weighing him down physically, the inference being that he is not quick enough.
The other (James Milner), the writer suggests, is a bit 'thick'. So, instead of a brain he has the proverbial 'fridge'.

I think we can tell which affliction you have?
