it isn't strictly a fair comparison, BH. Aguero and Silva are worth every penny and they are two of the shiniest stars in the football firmament IN MY OPINION. Lineker and much of what the BBC, ITV, Sky and BT spew out as STARS are just bang bloody average IN MY OPINION, and the programmes would not lose but a handful of viewers were they to depart IN MY OPINION. I

Tbf I expect a lot now watch it on iplayer and fast forward through the pundits bullshit, as they annoy people, I tend to watch it sunday morning as I will be out either after the game on saturday or just because it's saturday.

Hansen was on a pretty penny. Let's not forget that he also had to be chauffeur driven back-and-forth to London, as you get some rum sorts traveling first-class on the train, apparently. He managed to hold on until after the jolly to Brazil and then we had his eulogising biopic. Cringeworthy.

In some places on the continent, one commentator and no summariser at the game, and in the studio there are far fewer people and it's all wrapped up in minutes after the whistle.

Players and the media are too closely involved here, and it ultimately has an effect on who is employed, how much is charged, and how the game is covered.

Remove ALL studio pundits from MOTD and just show match after match without post match studio analysis would still work, and in my opinion be an improvement.

You could even give viewers the red button choice to turn off commentary during matches.
What bliss that would be!

The Beeb deliver excellent value for money, certainly need to economise by flirting the likes of Winkleman, Lineker, Evans and Norton.
Must be quids in since they got Messi off the books ( Wogan shuffling his mortal coil).
If they want to save money, get rid of the multitude of useless weather forecasters !

Given that companies want to present the most realistic coverage possible, the time must be coming when you can isolate the commentators and only hear the match, especially as television sound is improving. Think Periscope is 'rough' but it does give a more realistic experience.

Just came on the thread to say exactly that. What does Lineker do to warrant money like that? He doesnt provide insight and analysis, he is an introducer for football highlights we would all watch regardless if there was nobody talking on it.
Other ones, well wow. Jeremy Vine - he is nothing more than an agent provocateur or devils advocate for discussion to get people ringing in
Tess Daly - well where is the talent there?
Winkelman - what has she ever done to so warrant pay like that?
No wonder the DG of the beeb didnt want this revealed, its scandalous. He didnt want it all kept secret for the reasons he gave, he is concerned that people will look at where their licence fees go and stop paying it.

Couldn't care less what they get paid even if some are ridiculous,it's the license fee it's self I object to,the thought of someone in this day and age not paying for their license and possibly doing jail time or even an appearance in court itself is scandalous,you have the option to subscribe to sky,virgin or bt if you want where as the license is basically forced on you fuck that.
