Beautiful towns

Some nice towns in the Peak District, and not to long a drive from Manchester area, Buxton ( stock up on the spring water for free!), Hathersage, Bakewell ( home of the Tart!)
In the summer the Peak can be beautiful ( and bleak in the winter!)
Don't forget Chatsworth House for all you Downton Abbey-ites! If you have kids, they have a petting zoo, and an adventure playground (if you don't fancy dragging moaning kids around), with enough claiming, sliding, zip wiring, to tire them out.

We went to Cornwall about 5 years ago and stayed in an Eco cottage in Mawgan Porth, the place was stunning, 2 minute drive and you were at the beach, the Jamie Oliver 15 resteraunt was nearby, good food, great views.
Padstow isn't bad either, and while down there, a trip to the Eden Centre was well worth it.

Rye.

Stunning place.

Used to be a coastal town but gradually the sea ebbed away so now it's about a mile inland. That seems to have saved it from a lot of the ugly development nearby coastal towns have suffered.

Also worth a big shout out are Aldeburgh and Southwold. Pair of gorgeous towns on the Suffolk coast.

We've had threads about shitholes, what about lovely places in the UK?
I'm in Skipton for the week on a training course and have to say this place is spot on. I might fetch citymrs28 for a weekend soon.
Anywhere else to recommend?

I like Skipton as well and also in the same neck of the woods Harrogate, Ilkley and Knaresborough are all very nice. When we decided to return to the UK we looked at all areas of the country and North Yorkshire had the best of everything for us (except house prices). Lots of nice towns in the area.

Stamford and Louth in Lincolnshire are also both very pleasant places that we considered. Great Malvern was also a favourite.

Agreed Buxton is a beautiful place,
I work away all week in Glasgow at the moment and really look forward to getting home on Friday afternoon

Kelso, Scottish Borders, in fact anywhere in North Northumberland or Scottish Borders because the crowds haven't found it yet.
