Ben Chilwell

Isn’t he just a bit meh? This seasons Harry McGuire?... nothing I’ve seen suggests anything other than this. All about opinions I guess.

Gen Q, why will Watford be targeting him?

Because they recognise him as the weakest link in the defence. He might not be but they'll likely perceive him as such.

I suspect what they'll try to do is two things, both of which they did in the recent game at the Etihad. One is that they'll try and isolate him by getting someone onto him for long kicks and then pick up the scraps, which gets them up the park. The second is that they'll try and take the ball to the opposite flank, two men jumping against Walker if they can, and then from the break down switch it with a long diagonal to the man up against Zinchenko. If we give away early free kicks and have a defender booked, as Walker was at the Etihad, then you can be sure they'll try the same tactic: trying to get us to drift over to the right and leaving Zinchenko to cover acres of space. In the last game against Watford, Deulofeu ultimately scored by running away from Zinchenko.

It was just that you agreed with Dax post who said we dont have a weakness at LB and then in your very next post say we have.

Noprobs, we will simply have to disagree. Love Zin, but for me he isn't a first choice LB

Starting to think there is no such thing as the perfect, first-choice full-back for us. For the majority of domestic games, we need players who are extremely comfortable in possession and offer an attacking threat in the final third. For some games, however, we still need physicality, pace, and the ability to defend first. Chilwell, for me, falls somewhere between Mendy and Zinchenko.

What's an excellent back? Is he World Class? Not yet. Is he good. Without a doubt.

By am the way I am simply examining the data.

It should also be acknowledged that the data only covers a limited number of games this season. He’ll be significantly stronger and fitter next season. Indeed, he already looks stronger than the boy who went down with cramp towards the end of the Chelsea game.

The day Zinchenko stops naively getting caught under the ball, misreading the flight of the ball and getting beaten with ease at the back post is the day he becomes our first choice LB. And I'm not having a go at the kid I think he's done admirably since stepping in and looks very good going forward but his weaknesses are clear and we still need another LB if Mendy is gonna be a sick note. Is Chilwell the answer? Maybe not but we need someone.
