Benjamin Mendy - 2019/20 Performances

It looks to me that the long lay off with bad injuries has taken its toll. He’s certainly lost a yard of pace but his body seems stiff and awkward, his movement no longer fluid and almost ‘robotic’. A pity, but I think he’s lost it.

It wasn't his best outing but that's no reason to write him off.

The reason to write him off is that he consistently proves he's not good enough.

He had two very bad injuries. Frightening that you don't realise that. The Mendy who is playing now is way short of the player he was.

Can he recover his game?

His defending didn't look good before his injuries. He turns like a bus so having pace over about 50 yards is almost irrelevant as a fullback. I'm not even convinced he's still even got that pace though. His football ability is very limited and that's not due to injuries.

He hasn’t had a good start to the season and slowly losing patience.

He looks overweight, slow and his passing has gone. One point him and Raz and someone else were doing a triangle and he just missed it and gave Chelsea the ball. Then Someone got wrong side of him to in our corner, Tammy maybe and nicked it off him. Struggled to block crosses to.

He was rubbish in Milan as well as he looks a bit lost when he gets to the final 3rd.

I would take Zino any day of the week. His short passing is much better and has the eye to create something.

I’d take Zinchenko out of the three of them, but given the choice I would get somebody else in. Playing next to a top quality CB and with Fernandinho mopping up in midfield has shielded both Zin and Delph in previous seasons, not to mention the possession we have. This season they have all looked shaky. I think Zinchenko is tidy but too slow, Angelino looks good going forward but defensively not good enough and Mendy just looks a mess currently, adding nothing offensively and all over the place at the back.

Left back has been a problem area for
us since Willy Donachie left!

We didn't pay 50m for this version of Mendy to be fair. I doubt we'd pay 10m, we just wouldn't sign him.
