Benjamin Mendy - City lose case and Mendy awarded £11m in back pay (p168)

Whatever we may think about Mendy's lifestyle, if we're being fair a good few other professional footballers live a very similar life, one of our own still playing springs to mind.
He was rightly suspended after being accused of a very serious crime but he was found not guilty, so whether some like it or not he will be entitled to wages that would have been paid to him during that period. Exactly how much will have to be thrashed out legally. Most people suspended are still paid during that period until whatever they are suspended for is resolved. Of course that is often for in house work related disciplinary measures, legal cases may be different.

Normal people who are suspended don't automatically get paid when suspended, it will depend on what is in the individuals contract.

Pay the bloke, if it's owed it's owed and so we can finally have done with this awful affair.

Not sure that’s true.

In my old company we had a guy who was basically caught red handed stealing. You can’t sack people on the spot so he had to be suspended while the company properly investigated it, conducted interviews etc.

We had to pay **** while all this went on, then he was obvs sacked after the HR ‘investigation’.

Pretty sure the law one way or the other will be clear on this. Not vindictive against city, just a realisation by Mendy that his career is over and despite the acquittal the whiff of rapey sex pest around him will probably make it difficult to start another career. He needs to maximise whatever is in the bank account because he's funding retirement at 30.

Football clubs don't have any control over a player's lifestyle and when a player signs for a club the contract is for a job of work, Yes some managers like to think they are in control of the player's lifestyle, but they are not and the only power to the manager is playing time that the player gets, I think the only thing a club can control is a player has to be ready to play and fit and turns up on time, other than that its the players own time and can do whatever he likes,

Manchester City does have a case under that rule and Because Mendy was not able to turn up and make himself available and ready to play, But again Mendy could say will you suspend me so how could I turn up,

Mendy and City will settle out of court and leave it in the past, Glad Mendy was proven innocent and can still have a football career, But the lad is as daft as a box of frogs and the lifestyle and people around him will quickly fade away when the money runs out

He's already signed for another club in France, so his career isn't over, he isn't retired.

Clubs do have some control over what players can do in their own time.
If a player wanted to go skiing for example, the club would say no.
There will also be rules around bringing the club into disrepute.
