Best game you ever attended

IIRC Schalke had not conceded in the tournament until the semi-final at Maine Road

PS, I put that game as my best Mercer game in Gary James' biography of Joe
Was not aware the S04 had not conceded in the competition up until then. It now makes it all the more special.

Nice touch squirty regarding the book biography by the way.

Pity we were in the Holte end, couldn't get a ticket in the city end

This one. Hit the bar twice from memory too. Hamburg was half decent as well. and if it doesn't have to be the full match the last 5 of the full members was OK.

Re: Best game ever you attended

semi final vs rags. Amazing day, amazing atmosphere- i dont think anyone has produced an atmoslike that at wembley

Special mention to hamburg as well

I have a few random ones that spring to mind.

Fulham at home in division 2. They were top of the league and had already thrashed us 3-0 earlier in the season. We absolutely battered them that day and Maine road went mental. We were all singing "Keegan, what's the score?"

Sheffield Wednesday away 6-2. Keegan was on our side this time and the football we played was magical. Ali b was playing his third game for us if I remember correctly and it was that day that made me realise we were going to piss that division.

Liverpool away 2-1. 1-0 down and outplayed all game. Anelka scored a penalty with about ten minutes left and scored a volley from outside the box in the last minute of injury time. We really did go crazy in the away end that day.

There are loads of other top days that I would like to put in there but I would just bore you.

Was at all these great call would also add Blackburn away promotion game

Not sure it counts as the match was abandoned, but the Denis Law backheeler derby in 1974 was the best atmosphere I've experienced.

The post match entertainment was excellent too.

Got to say that , other than the thought that the rags went down , i didn't enjoy that day one bit ...... you could just sense that it was gonna kick off as the game wore on , and when it did it wasn't very pleasant , that fighting in the scoreboard paddock was bad to say the least ..... wasn't particuarly nice after the game either!

We hardly even celebrated the goal .....

European Cup Winners Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg at Maine Road...

Lost one nil in Germany and in April 1970 had the home leg against Schalke 04.

There were two Schalke04 fans with a banner that they walked on the running track towards the Kippax saying something like best greetings to MCFC which was a nice touch.
They had one of the top wingers in European Football playing for them called Reinhard Libuda, a real class act.

So City are one nil down from the first leg, Genial Joe and Big Mal decide to start the game with two wingers... Tony Towers and Mike Summerbee and give them the complete lesson on how to do it properly. Nelly Young bags a brace, Mike Doyle, Franny and King Colin complete the rout.

Schalke were battered 5-1 (5-2 on aggregate) and we march on to beat Gornik in the final.... and Goodnight Vienna.

Glory days shall return.... although it's been a bloomin' long time!

sadly i´m too young for that. maybe it will return as a match in a CL semi :-)

that lost soul Stan Libuda is still an icon at Schalke

Re: Best game ever you attended

Been mentioned but the newcastle away game title winning season unreal scenes in that away end when toure scored, the derby last season 2-1 win ended up 3 rows down on my back when aguero stuck it in was kind of a nice 2 finger salute to them as well you might of won the league but we'll still come here and dick you.
