Best player from our doldrums years (1980 to roughly 2009)

Clive played a lot of top flight football for Chelsea, QPR, and Spurs. He became a superb, very skilled, left back who would have got in our present day team in my view (in that left back position). I think he was unlucky not to achieve more with his career. I met him once in Withington. You couldn't have met a nicer bloke.
The last one off the Wilbraham High conveyor belt to wear the blue shirt following Roger Palmer, Alex Williams and Eric Nixon. Prior to Roger we had a lad called Greatorex iirc who signed for the rags and who seemed to get a name check every assembly from the (obviously rag) Headmaster. Not sure if Paul Hart (Johnny Harts’ son) went to Wilbraham, his younger brother, Nigel, did and he carved out a career in the lower leagues.

I was 8 when we signed him and for a fleeting time in a sky blue shirt he was god! I remember where I was when I was told we'd sold him, I was heartbroken :( I know he was injured a lot, but fuckin hell, an absolute Rolls Royce of a footballer. A year or two later we'd gone from sheer class to the likes of Peter Bodak and Gordon fucking Dalziel. Cheers Mr Shredded wheat head. :(
Sorry

SWP was a shining light in the darkest of times, I loved him then and still do, he didn't want to leave City but did so to save the club.

A hero on and off the pitch.

Ali B was utter class and a joy to watch, if only we could have got him earlier

Met them all. Eric Nixon used to go in the Old House at Home on Burton Road which was a huge Blue pub in those days. It was my local.

Clive ‘Silky’ Wilson was the first player that sprung to my mind. Sadly, the generally awful standard of the City teams he played in meant that his quality was often overlooked.
I can still recall how gutted i was when he joined Chelsea, Clive was a very, very good player

One name springs to mind. Trevor Francis. Top top class, knew we were fucked financially when we sold him and were heading for trouble.

Also remember buying the Trevor Francis electronic striker game and playing it constantly till the keys went on it after about 3 months- a little like Trevor’s hamstrings that season.
