Big Phil Haters

he'll shit all over drogba once he matures. he's got the physicality, now loan him to a team in a league that promotes more time on the ball and get his smarts up.

spain or italy perhaps

definitely do NOT sell from me

Played really well yesterday. I liked his strong run from the back followed by the cross, in the 1st half. The one thing that is certain is that he is improving. I think he's a great prospect and could become a bit of a cult hero here.

Looks like I was right all along ;)

there were about 3 of us out of thousands on here

but loads will come on and say ' i always rated him' but did they fuck they are just sheep

there are only about 3 or 4 members on here who know football, the rest are sheep. fact!

Haha we were definitely in the minority. With every goal he scores my smugness gets a little greater.
You betta give me some credit I started of that 20 odd page topic on him, because i said i was in favour of him :)

I'm a bit confused about him. Sure I saw a quote from one of the players about how skillful Sturridge was, saying that he was up there with Robbie, Elano AND PHIL, so that would imply there's more to come.

His pace is also a tricky one - he looks like he's lumbering around slowly but on two or three occasions now he's had a run with the ball and he's had the pace to go with it. Maybe he needs a few yards to get going (after all 100m sprinters don't look very nimble) or could it be his confidence that he's strong enough to hold people off when they catch him? Most strikers without great pace seem to have one eye on the defender, expecting to get caught, and are thinking of the best moment to stop and cut inside (think just about everyone we've bought for the last couple of years!) but he doesn't seem to think this way.

They say the first yard is in the head, and given his general unaware look (how can he be so oblivious about being offside half the time), he may appear slower because his opponent usually gets the yard start.

+ 1

I think he's faster than people give him credit for

Just watch him when he has the ball, he has very quick feet for such a big guy. Seen him play for Ecuador a few times and when they have a bit more space and he skins defenders all the time.

I agree he's nowhere near slow, he doesn't lack blistering pace, he's just a bit slow off the mark. I bet at full sprinting speed he's just as fast, if not faster than Robbie is. No-ones going to bundle him off the ball either.

I mean, the guy has come from South American football and the Swiss league, he's 20 years old, it's going to take him time to adapt the pace of the league.

look how much he has improved in 18months, who knows how good he will be in another 18mnths, credit has to go to hughes for developing him and for giving him the nod ahead of that twat called daniel

Best all round performance i've seen from him. Knew when to pass it, distributed it well, held it up well, was in the right positions at the right time.. and not afraid to go alone and take a shot when necessary. Generally just a great target man performance.

He's definitely worth keeping hold of. Always felt that.

Ive never said anything bad about this lad on here. On each of the past threads ive just said there something about him which I like. Once he matures he will become a decent front man, he already has some pace and strength. If he improves his shooting and gathers some confidence he will be just what we need.
