Blue Moon Top 100 Bands Artists - Full List of Artists (pg 287)

That’s a nice riposte. I do take you point re: Picasso and Dali. I saw Guernica on a visit to Madrid a couple of years ago, and it is an incredible piece of work. Odd, for sure, but no doubt it took real talent.

Different is also good, no doubt about it. But I’d prefer different and tuneful. But one man’s meat and all that .....Anyway, more on that later today

Definitely. In no way am I saying that music has to be complicated to be appreciated. Some of the music I like best is just a man and an acoustic guitar. However, in the Sex Pistols case, they were different and rubbish. I know not everybody agrees because they finished just outside the top 100 in this poll.

You’re right about the pistols they were rubbish, can’t say Joy Division were much cop either although that will not be welcome on here. New Order are excellent though.

@FogBlueInSanFran wanted Hooks. Well, we may not have Dr Hook or Captain Hook, but we do have Peter Hook .......

Fun fact: Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook formed Joy Division after attending a Sex Pistols concert. Whether that was because they were inspired by what they heard, or whether they thought that anything would be better than that old racket isn’t clear. Either way, more than 40 years after Ian Curtis’ death, their popularity doesn’t appear to have waned.

I was too young to see them live, but got exposed to them at school as randomly half of my class were goths! Heard "Heart and Soul" loads of times out of a pair of tinny Walkman speakers.
Didn't really get into them myself until becoming a New Order fan, but can only listen to them in small doses.
Have seen Hooky & the Light & New Order perform many of their songs, but the former only really seem to do them justice.
My favourites are "Digital" & "Isolation", so I guess I prefer their more upbeat side.

Nothing wrong with not liking JD nor the Pistols sonically. I had neither on my list because neither were remotely prolific enough though I like them both (there’s not enough product to “love” them). What one shouldn’t deny is their importance in terms of influence on other bands, but even then one could argue that’s a wee bit overstated.

Like I said, I really enjoyed watching the documentary, but some of the talking head interviews on there would have you believe that they re-invented music, which I’m not having!

I thought that Bernie Sumner came across quite well but that Peter Hook seemed to treat Ian Curtis’ death as some kind of laugh. I’m sure he doesn’t really think that but it just felt weird.

Next up ELO I am guessing
No, we’ve got a really nice run now. Well, from my POV anyway.
Artists that have really put a shift in and have significant back catalogues to back up any arguments, regardless of whether people like them or not.

A significant back catalogue didn’t seem to head off the Rush argument ;)
