Six of my 15 artists had women in the bands at some point during their existences or always. In my top 50 I'd bet its near half the bands I like most.An adequate reflection of the forum demographic, I feel.

I think this is correct from punk / post punk and Madchester and influenced bands that followed, where as 60's bands (Hollies, Hermits, Dreamers, Mindbenders - we can even throw the Bee Gees in there!) could all carry a tune and harmonies.Hmmm. Of the Manc bands I know on this list, this is quite correct. I never thought about that before. None of the fuckers can sing.
The Kinks number one is arguably more Brit-tribal than the Smiths being top 2 is Manc-tribal.
Just kidding :)
Not a bad list at all -- there are a couple of bands I haven't heard, but I like the variety and mix of new and old.
My original list was confined to two continents and only had bands whose debut records were 60s-90s (though I had a number of 90s bands on there). This might be an interesting exercise.
Easy
1.The Kinks 60s Europe
2. Frank Sinatra 50s North America
3.The Pixies 80s N America
4.The Small faces 60s Europe
5.The Jam 70s Europe
6. The beatles 60s Europe
7. Rollign blackouts Costal Fever 10s Oceania
8. Carabao 80s Asia
9. Abba 70s Europe
10. The Specials 80s Europe
11. Neil Young 60s N America
12. Sleaford Mods 00s Europe
13. Marvin Gaye 60s N America
14. Talking Heads 70s N America
15. Yoasobi 20s Asia
Even managed to get a band in the 20s in and they are in no particular order btw ;-)
The asian bands I doubt anyone would like, though Carabao are the same band that launched the enrgy drink that sponsored the cup we love so much
As for Rolling Blakcout CF probably the best indie band to come form OZ recently bit or an 90s vibe and early REM mixed with some jangly pop
For a future poll.....
It has been noted about lack of female and US artists but not seen anyone comment yet as to how white the top 100 has been.
Just 5 non white names in there (four and a half if you include The Specials)
Would.love to see a.non white poll as even though I am (was) a typical 80's white indie kid there is still a love of Motown, dub and soul in me, just not in my top 15 - and a Manc band can still come on top with Sweet Sensation!
The asian bands I doubt anyone would like my time spent living in thailand though had me listening to many a local band plus Carabao are the same band that launched the enrgy drink that sponsored the cup we love so much
